Guitar Hero Bumping Live Music?

Post by dayzichick »

Ok, I read the thread about the DJs bumping live music . . . what about this . . .YP has a Guitar Hero contest tonight instead of a DJ or a live band . . first of all is it legal to play those games and hold a contest in a public place if there is no cover AND what does everyone think about replacing a live band with a Guitar Hero contest?

I remember this being discussed here before. I feel the same way as I do about dj's/karaoke/trivia/poker. It's a pretty cool alternative, and I do not feel threatened in the least.

LOL, YP ... nevermind. I don't think it poses a threat. There are plenty of good venues at which to play and gigs to be had. You just gotta book them. r:>)

What if it weren't YP . . .any bar . . . I should have put that in my first post. Sorry I didn't know it was a previous discussion. I think I have a problem with live music being replaced by a video game. That's my point. But I guess it's no different than scaryaoke . . .it's just for wannabe guitar players like that is for wannabe singers. And I don't think it's legal to make a profit from it but I don't know.

Not sure about the performance rights purchased by the game maker, but as long as they are not charging for the use of the game I think they are mostly safe.

Not too much different if you had a different group of friends over each night to play, IMO anyway.

I've heard stories of bands finding singers at "scaryoke" contests. Sometimes these people do have talent, and they just don't know how to go about getting in the loop.
Some are wannabes, others just do it for fun when they're loaded. I'm going to visit some friends in July who have a machine at their place and when they party that's all they do. I've already been told I'll be doing some and I hate singing (because I suck and I would rather stick to what I do best) but I'm going to for the spirit of it.
Since my head's shaved, maybe I'll look for a Superman shirt....

Most people here hate the Yp and i know why believe me i helped out there my band plays there and we like to cause were treated fairly well and its close for us to travel. But the bands wern't kicked for guitar hero the bar lost an appeal hearing for a noise violation and lost there entertainment licence for 30day's so they cant have bands or dj's so anyone that has played there in the past month or 2 thats why the owner has been so anal he's getting harrased as far as previous topics bout pay thats a whole different story im not goin to defend that nut the LCB suck with the bullshit
