Type A and Type B personality theory

Post by rickster »

The Type A and Type B personality theory is a personality type theory that describes a pattern of behaviors that were once considered to be a risk factor for coronary heart disease. Since its inception in the 1950s, the theory has been widely popularized and also widely criticised for its scientific shortcomings.

Type A individuals can be described as impatient, excessively time-conscious, insecure about their status, highly competitive, over-ambitious, business-like, hostile, aggressive, incapable of relaxation in taking the smallest issues too seriously; and are somewhat disliked for the way that they're always rushing and demanding other people to serve to their standards of satisfaction.[1] They are often high and over-achieving workaholics who multi-task, drive themselves with deadlines, and are unhappy about the smallest of delays. Because of these characteristics, Type A individuals are often described as "stress junkies." Type B individuals, in contrast, are described as patient, relaxed, and easy-going. There is also a Type AB mixed profile for people who cannot be clearly categorized.

I'm definitely a type B but I'm sure my ex-husband would say I'm a type A. Even though he told me once I was too easy-going. He also said I'm bossy. So I'm confused. Is there a type C?

I am now a type B after fully recovering from a few decades of serious prototypical type A behavior.

Did u find it difficult to do that? I am most def a Type A at work; I suppose in the band its not quite that high. I do worry about some things way too much or possibly I am intrigued by stressful situations...

Scored a 26, strictly type B. I am sure earlier in my life that would have been very different.

That's a failing grade, Mojo. We'll let it slide this time, seeing as I scored lower then you :)

Nope. All it took was the old brokerage account $ ticker to break the 7 digit mark.

I'm what you call type G. Too damn guitarded to realize what the hell is actually going on because the only thing that goes through my head is music. It may very well kill me some day.

My friend in the passenger's seat: "What the fuck dude?!?! That dude almost hit us! My heart is thumping. Did you get his license plate???"

Me: "Naw, but did you hear that rumble from the vibration of air when he got that close to us? That was a hell of a note. Was pretty close to an A. You know that 145 in A by Dr Hook... 'Well, we're big rock singers, we got stinky* fingers"

Let's just keep this between you, me, and the line of therapists that will never be able to help me.

scored a 50 exactly. I'm impatient on most things but don't understand why people are impatient with other stuff (driving? chill out!)

I got a 47 ... pretty much fits me to a "T".

....................

You seem to be in the middle between the Type A and Type B personality. In this case, the middle ground is good. Your attitude to life is more of the "smell the roses" kind and you know how and when to relax. Nonetheless, you realize that picking up a challenge and competing a little bit for your place in the sun can add some spice to your life. The equilibrium is important, so don't let your hostile, aggressive, and competitive alter ego take over too often. Generally, you are easy to be around, and people tend to feel relaxed and comfortable in your presence. Yours is a very healthy attitude towards life.

I scored a 35, described as being between Types A and B. I think that is accurate; I think I lean more toward Type B laid-back behavior, and don't prefer to get caught up in the rat race or stress in general. Still, I do like to get things done, and get frustrated when I don't complete everything I'd like to on a given day.
