Ralph Stayer R.I.P.

Post by Jim Price »

We lost another area musician recently. Ralph Stayer, a member of several area bands over the years, died on May 10 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was 52.

Ralph played guitar and bass in several bands spanning the '80s to recently. He was a member of Zephyr in the '80s, and remained with the band for a short period after they changed their name to XL. He also played with Back Street Boys, the band Terry Hammel formed after leaving XL. He was involved with other projects over the years, most recently with Torn Blak and Kickin' Back.

Ralph is survived by a wife and two daughters.

Here are two pictures of Ralph, taken during a Torn Blak show at Peter C's in January 2005. I remember this night well, a 3-inch snowfall earlier that afternoon made driving terrible, but a crowd still showed up at Peter C's to rock with Torn Blak.
