Car body repair men? Need dents fixed in brass shell drum.

I have two brass shell snare drums with lots of dents. Anyone know how to take them out ?

1970s Slingerland COB Snare drums.

Sounds like a brass hammer and a dolly is what you'd need to take those out Bill.
After then dents are removed, you'd want to polish them out and it would look like new.

That process is used by body shops and guys who restore old cars. It's especially useful when restoring old chrome strips and trim items on cars when aftermarket or replacement parts aren't available.

I dont have those tools available to me. If I did, I know I could get those dents out for you.
The best I could tell you is to either find someone on here as you are, or maybe stop by some local body shops with your shell, so they can see what you are talking about.

Bill get a hold of dent wizard or one of the other dent removal guys. They use to come to the dealerships alot when I was selling cars. They get in with little rods and work the dent out from the inside. I have seen them do a door with 6 or 7 quarter size dents in it and when he was done it was perfect. It cost $50 a panel at that time regardless of how many dents. Some of the guys wont let you see how they do it like its some fucking ancient Chinese secret, but it works check them out.

The dent wizard guys actually sign a contract (with the devil) and it states that they will not work for anyone else doing the same thing for at least 5 years after they leave dent wizard. And also some of them will put a curtain up around the car when they do it so you cant see how they do it. But if you know someone that works for a car dealership get them to hook you up with the dent guy. It will work and should be fairly inexpensive.

Hawk, I'm thinking that you will change the sound of the snare? I would ask on Drumsmith.com, I'm sure that all metal shells are tuned by hammering and the head tension.
Drums don't make a good drummer. Technique and pratice do!

actually you would want to find somethin that fits the inner contour of the shell and keep pressure on the inside pushing out. at the same time, make small, light, even taps around the outer perimeter of the dent (body hammer or brass hammer) a rule of thumb when i was taught to to body work "first in last out" you want the point of impact on the dent to be the last part pushed out as to not stretch the metal

Damn, I typed up a long post as a progress report and pushed the wrong button and erased it. Have you ever done that ?

BTW I am very familiar with these Slingerland COB shells. I already have three vintage Slingerland snare drums. All COB. 14x5 eight lug, 14x6.5 ten lug and a 14x5 Super Sound King, which is Slinerland's version of a Ludwig Super Sensitive.
