(Just commenting on certain behaviors on rockpage as a whole)

There has been a whole bunch of douche baggery going on, here on rockpage.. childish internet arguements, name calling, cutting eachother down... whatever happened to fellowship and supporting your fellow musician.. I remember a time when rockpage was like that.. there was a sense of "we're in this together".. what ever happend to that I wonder?
Since when are we all in competition of eachother, eachothers ideas, veiws and opinions?

.. but I bet some retard that thinks he's smarter than everyone, will cut me down in what I have to say because of some screwed up self gradification issue.. ya know.. they have to make THEMSELVES feel better about theirself , or because I brought this up! ....by all means.. chop me down.. but first think about, who really looks like the fool... Lets see who the first "Troll" to say something will be.. lmao

Music is a form of art and expression.. and I know everyone one in this online community loves what they do.. don't go cutting somone down becuase what they're doing might not be your bag... I'm not saying you have to love it.. or even like it... but listen to it for what it is... thats someones art... I could go listen to a band.... they might be the noisiest, shittiest band I ever heard.... but I am gonna find something I like about the music... because.. not every opinion has to be a negative one... especially about music..

In my opinion, if someone really gets all distraught cause somebody said something mean to them on a public forum, they may have some real issues. RP may not be all "thank you" and "excuse me", but it's way more entertaining than some of the other forums that I frequent.

It's one thing to hammer someone in the general forum. It's another to give someone crap in the Musicians Wanted section.

The whole bit with Jake Williams last post advertsising himself as a singer was one of the most juvenile displays I've seen in a long time. If someone wants to have the freedom to say what they want, move it to the general forum. Quote Jake and let it rip there and keep it there. People who come here looking for other musicians want to do just that. They don't want to hear a pissing contest erupt over personal crap. This shit keeps a lot of people from coming in here and posting, looking for other players or networking. That's a fact.

Just a suggestion to Ron, have a low tolerance for stupidity in the musicians wanted section. Musicians finding other musicians is a bigger part of this site than musician bithching about life or raggin on someone else..,

A few thoughts...

1. In the earlier days when Rockpage moved to the forum format, there were a lot more posters who were pro/semi-pro level musicians and sound engineers, and the non-musicians were pretty serious fans of live music. Now, there are lot of musicians on who have never really played an actual gig or who have only gigged a handful of times, who have never been in a band, and some of the non-musicians seem more casual and are interested in the social function of the site. I'm not saying that's a good thing or a bad thing; in addition I'm not saying the former group is somehow superior to the latter. However, I do notice a big difference in discussion, and in some ways, the latter group has a bit of a skewed view of what it's like to go out and have your ass kicked on a weekly basis by playing music. We work with some production people who have been around the block and often lurk on Rockpage. They're reactions to what gets posted here ranges from them laughing their asses off to down right anger over how ignorant some people are about things. Which brings me to my second point...

2. The number of posters who are lurking here is astounding. Remember, just because someone isn't posting doesn't mean that they aren't reading.

3. Sometimes tempers flare and disagreements occur. Sometimes we diverge from the subject of music and talk about movies or cars. That's cool and is what a community is about. I've fired off on people whom I thought were being stupid or an asshole. I don't really take part in political threads because they're innane for the most part with the same old people trying to push their skewed views of reality as The Truth. People who are assholes will dig their own graves.

...there has been a lot of pissing and moaning here, lately. And it's mostly in the political threads, ironically. Go figure.
