Modern Rock

Post by Banned »

This post isnt meant to bash anyone who likes this kind of music.. If you like modern rock bands like seether, three days grace, nickelback, breaking benjamin, & other similar bands.....cool...im not telling anyone what to like.
those bands are very popular and sell lots of records..more power to them.

i just DONT GET IT. ive heard lots of modern rock and to me, it all kinda just sounds the same. alot of my friends like it, and i tell them the same thing.
does anyone else feel the same? or am i alone this one?

As evidenced by yours and MeYatch's comments, I'd say that music is a preference thing. Some people like this kind of stuff, some people like that kinda stuff.

This same thread could be reposted, only take out "modern rock" and insert "polka" or "rap" or "bluegrass" or "hip-hop" or "country" or whatever.

I think he just wants to know if anyone feels the same as him about this genre. I'm sure he gets the whole diff strokes/diff. folks thing. It's just this "edgy" "modern" ROCK??? Has been all the rage since Creed put the final nail in the coffin of grunge/Alternative. I for one can't stand it. And if you're gonna pigeonhole me and call me some sort of Metal elitist, you can blow me. Metal is not even my favorite genre of music. I like Punk/indie/grunge/ska/metal/bluegrass/deltablues/yourmomssweetpussy/funk/soul/swing/reggae/country/rap, and even some classical. I just do not like pop/R&B/Most jazz/Most texas blues/Most classic rock/99.99% Modern rock/Hair metal.

I would however let Chad Kroger blow me, even if he has no soul and would record himself shitting if 13 year old girls, and their sex deprived mothers who share the same wardrobes would buy it. He sure is pretty.

Thats my new favorite genre.

I don't know if its as much Modern Rock bands all sound the same, or if all popular music in the past 10 years all sounds the same. Record execs find a sound that works, so they go out and recruit 15 more bands that sound like them.

FWIW its not a bad sound, there are several modern rock songs I like, not really any bands though.

Great summation of the music scene the last 10 or so years. Would bands like Rush, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Yes or even Jimi Hendrix get signed today? No way, they do fit a pattern and would be ignored.

Even 'modern rock' bands didn't fit some 'pattern' at some point in time.

I actually like a bunch of the modern stuff. It has quality as well as quantity.

Its all relative. I think a lot of older stuff sounds much the same.

I agree that a lot of "Modern Rock" is nothing but a marketing contest. Then music in general is like that anymore. You find so many bands that shouldn't even have a record deal, but do because of how they look as apposed to how the perform. Of course, if they can't perform they will just have them lip sync.

that's probably how all those acid rockers feel about the bands in the 80's.

on an entirely related matter:
i'm tired of hearing people bash on nickelback and 3 days grace and whatnot. it's just crap. so you don't like it, don't listen. not pointing fingers here, just saying.

People like what they like. I for one don't really care for most of the newer "modern rock", but there are a few songs that I like. It's kinda strange, whenever I hear a new song, if it doesn't grab my attention within the first 20 seconds I won't stick around to hear the rest of it. So, what I'm getting at is you are not alone, but don't be afraid to admit you like a song from a particular genre just because you think it all sounds the same.

Is that a quote from "Gran Torino"?
