Dancing House Locally

Post by xero380 »

Anyone ever see the dancing house on tv where the lights go with the music?

Well I was in Everett lastnite and saw one first hand and you pull in their driveway and tune to the radio station and the lights go with the music. Just kinda curious as to how you'd even hook something up like that...anyone know?

In most cases the lights are controlled by a small PC. There are several cards that you can get that will control different numbers of electrical outlets. Once you have the cards in there is a program that you can get for free that will allow you to "program" the reaction of the seperate outlets to the music... Some of the units are self contained but not as flexible...

Animated Lighting

I was going to try this at one point but i ended up going for the true meaning instead of the, uhh, commercial message...

It looks like a blast though!

These are becoming rather popular and you have to admit...very cool and something really different. Anyway, they featured this one house on the local news and the guy pays $475 a month in electric. His lights remain on from 5:30p until 11:00p. He has a tip jar at the end of his drive to help offset the added expense.

Wasn't it Coke who did a commercial featuring a house like this about three or four years ago? Ever since that commercial people have been dabbling at their version of extreme x-mas lighting!

It was a Miller Lite commercial. It's nice to think that Alex Skolnick got a royalty check every time that commercial was aired... the music it was synced to was done by the TSO.
... and then the wheel fell off.

I'd actually like to do that, but power costs have been a issue. Maybe not dancing but with some motion and color changing.

The most time intensive part of it would be the planning and the wiring phase. Making it happen would be the easy part. I'd use one large Nsi dimmer (maybe two) controled by martin lightjockey via a PC.

A couple of multichannel dimmers which most bands have coupled with some software and a cheap interface and viola your done. There is freeware on the net that will do this. When I say cheap interface think under 50 bucks, but some are way up there.

Use a low power transmitter and you've got it.

With lightjockey a cd timecode can be used to choreograph the lighting and music if wanted.

These items are all in my invertory.

Show was on HGTV again last night at 8:00PM showing the coolest houses in the country... One guy pays $950.00 a month and it's up for 4 months.....

But yet again, How gay am I for watching HGTV Sun night instead of football?
