I say Merry Christmas.
If people don't like it, they can piss off. It says "Christmas" on the calender, not "Holiday."

That's always been my take on it too.metalchurch wrote:I always thought that the term 'Happy Holidays' referred to Christmas and New Year's grouped together as one, because alot of people are off for an extended time, and therefore that one phrase takes care of it.

That's my take and kind of my point. It's seems that there is such a small percentage of people that are do not celebrate Christmas or are offended by Merry Christmas but yet the society is addressing the issue and adjusting their actions for such a tiny percentage of the population.
This Happy Holidays stuff is bullshit in my opinion.
People tell me Happy New Year, Happy Halloween, Happy Thanksgiving, Lets Go Steelers, etc. without considering the fact that I may be offended.
I say Merry Christmas. It's an American Holiday that is observed. If you can't say/hear Merry Christmas w/o being offended, then you should go to work and not take the day off.

I say merry christmas. My dollar bill says, "in God we trust."
BTW...a lot of businesses are not changing to "Happy Holidays" or other terms because of any laws, etc. They do it so they recognize other holidays that fall into the season. They don't want to run a Kwanzaa sale and a Christmas Sale and a Chanukah Sale.
I don't really find it offending to say "happy holidays". But when a court tells me I can not have the cross displayed at my business, or the ten commandments outside my door, then I'm offended. I would never tell anyone that they could not display items that pertain to their religion, faith, and history.

Bottom-line: I'm not offended by Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays, either way. However, if I were a business owner, I would stick with Happy Holidays just for the simple fact that it encompasses the largest amount of demographics out there. Is it PC? Yeah, it is, but it's the same reason why I wouldn't preach my politics on stage in the middle of a set.

I generally say "Have a good holiday" or something like, or, it may also depend to whom
I'm speaking. Haunaka is way older than Christmas (And a big part of why Christmas
is celebrated when it is. Jesus wasn't born in December, that tree is a Pagan thing, etc.,
etc.). Kwanza? Well, if someone wants to have a holiday that celebrates their combined
heritage, they should FEEL FREE to do so.
I agree that "Christmas" is more of a secular holiday now, and a lot of those with some
big issue with it not being referred to with what they consider proper reverence aren't
REALLY planning on spending it in a very traditionally "Christian"-like way. SO, it kind'a
seems like it JUST MIGHT OFTEN be a little more of a jealousy thing that those crazy
Jewish people are actually being observant of what their holiday is about. AND, it's not
even their BIG ONE.
Remember that those wild and wooly Puritans so many like to espouse about "founding
the nation on religious principles" would, at best, put you in stocks and whip the soles
of your feet with a leather strap for that overly ostentatious wreath because EVERY DAY
was to be seen as "God's" day.
Just sayin'...but again...I don't follow the belief that the Easter Bunny created the world
in seven days then went sailing for the next 40 Days and all. I grew up Southern Baptist
and was at church a lot...and have actually looked into the big book of stuff and how it
came about...and things just don't add up.
Hope that doesn't offend in a non-PC way.
