Cool LPs?

Post by VENTGtr »

Working on a project and was wondering, what's the coolest looking Les Paul
you know of?

Personally, I like the BFGs, and am leaning towards something with more of
distressed look (Besides liking the look, won't have to be as concerned about
the inevitable scuffs. etc.).

Don't like the circle thing on the Wyldes (Though the one he has with the beer
caps isn't bad), not into the camo thing.

Don't see a lot of well-worn-looking LPs like you do starts, teles, etc.

Probably the bestest LesPaul is Randy Rhoads' White 1974 LP Custom.

The BFG is ok, but I dont like that P90 in the neck position.

There's a company named Spears that makes a 1 humbucker, 1 volume Les Paul that is bad ass.

I always liked Dave 'The Snake' Sabo and Scotti Hill's Les Paul bodied customs from the early 90's. They had 1 humbucker, 1 single coil, and a Floyd Rose.

Whatever color you decide, I agree that it would look great all beat up and relic'd, cause you dont see those much.

I'm partial to Black Beauties.

Gold pickup covers always look like shit once they get some miles on them, though.

I've always been partial to AAA flamed cherry sunburst Les Pauls.

Joe,

Actually, I am a P90 liker. May, later on, actually put one on the neck.

The BFG's had Burstbucker 3s in the neck. From what I've found, they
have way more output than I want, but the B.B. 2s might be cool.

Rob,

Oh yeah, you didn't stop at the house Saturday so you haven't seen this.
It's a nice maple top. Got the "great deal" on it because it has a couple of
small birdseyes...which I like...

Paul,

Ya, but looking do something translucent. The top on this thing is really
nice, so, even if the whole thing is in sort of a haggard-looking state, would
like it to show though.

Leaning towards a dark burgundy, but with the BFG kind of worn look at
the moment. BUT, do have a few cans o' spraypaint around...so who
knows...

Ron,

I've always dug the Tobacco Burst, and the Joe Perry models have a REALLY
nice, dark burst. Found a couple of places that showed easy ways to do cool
burst. STILL considering it.

The PROBLEM I am having is that the top IS so nice that it just kind'a seems
wrong not to keep it all sharp and clean...but I'll manage.

Here I assumed you were just thinking about an LP! Never thought I'd see anything but a strat body on your stands ;)

Guess the figured maple burl is out for right now :?

If you're gonna rock the LP at a gig let me know which one before hand, I'll bring something different too. I think I have a bass around here somewhere that would match nicely with a flame maple top LP. Heck I might even have to bring out the old TRB...

If it's a nice matched flame, I would stain it then or do a transparent finish.

I agree. Usually the sunbursts are sunbursts because they have some wood filler repair on the corners. If it's clean to the edges I would forget about using any opaque paint.

Yep, and the solid color Gibby's have even worse bruises hidden under the paint.

Ya, this'll be pretty much transparent...just look worn. It's perfect, all the way around, with
the sole exception of 2, tiny, little birdeyes mentioned, and I kind of wish they were bigger.
Just look cool.

Yes sir, Rob, I had the same thought. Used to have a root beer-coloured, transparent LP,
but never once played a show with it. Only had it for a, relatively, short while, actually.

Always wanted to get another, just to have, and to use to record sometimes, but couldn't
justify the cost. Still can't. If I wouldn't have worked up the "good" deal, may never have.

KIND'A hoping to have it ready Saturday, but that's doubtful. Mebbe T-Giving eve...mebbe.

Next...maybe another tele....or a Reverse Firebird... The issues continue...

Eesh. Think they'd figure I was goin' through a SERIOUS mid-life
crisis...and that'd PROBABLY be the only good explanation, eh?

Yep. A 19 year old blonde chick, convertible something or other,
and King V. Yaaaaaaa.

I've seen pics of those, and I think they're beautiful, at least on paper. They had a lime-colored one, too... I like green guitars, because they're so rare.
If I had my choice of Pauls, I'd either go with a Black Beauty, an Ace Frehley cherry sunburst, or my sentimental favorite, the silverburst. My buddy Doug Forshey used one for many years, and he loved it so much, it was catchy. Plus, they used to be fairly rare, and they look good in photo's.--->JMS
