New Rockpage Host

Post by Ron »

Recently, Rockpage has really been getting a large number of hits (avg. 15,000 per day), and this is causing problems with our database access and current host. As a result, I am moving Rockpage to a brand new web host.

This will cost several hundred dollars, but reliability is golden, and I can't take the site being down any longer.

I was planning on doing a major update to Rockpage before the new year, and changing hosts will make this update happen faster and in a more seamless fashion. Most people won't even know that the site was moved across the country, aside from the 'look and feel' changes caused by the update.

Please forgive any downtime this may cause. In the end it will make downtime a thing of the past.

Thanks to everyone here for their support. I may need it to pay my new hosting bill!

Ron

I think this calls for a Rockpage benefit gig!

(Man, it seems like benefit gigs are my answer for all of life's problems)

Thanks everyone.

JP and I have discussed the idea of a benefit before, but nothing ever came of it. It would be nice.

Count Ever Since Yesterday in if you are going to have a benifit show. We'll be more than happy to come and play. Rockpage has helped us out more than once, and we are more than willings to try and give back. Let us know...

I honestly think Rockpage should stay free to the users. However, I agree with everyone else that we should definitely do benefits to support such a great forum. This is one of the best things the local scene had in a long time. From the connections you make between members to the database of knowledge just flowing right at your fingertips, Rockpage ROCKS!! :D

As far as a benefit, it'd be awsome to have it on a Sunday to where bands and members that weren't performing could come out and party with everyone. Just an idea.

I may not be in a band anymore Ron but I still visit RockPage every day just to see what's going on in town. I can't play in a benefit but I'd pay a yearly subscription or something to that effect.

No Limit will definately help fill a benefit roster. Rockpage is a very great thing. Let me know how No Limit can help.

pnEumatic could probably join this roster as well, im sure with all these bands doing a benefit would really take that dent out of your pocket for moving the site....

::Lightbulb::

What if we all did a divide and conquer kind of deal? From what I have read so far, the bill for this benefit show would be so damn long that it wouldn't even be able to fit in one night. All interested in doing this show could split up into groups, play in one spot and all the money made would go to Rockpage. Think about it, 2-3 bands at once place while 2-3 bands are doing the same thing somewhere else, and so on. The cost for the new Rockpage host would drop an insane amount. I honestly think we should take this idea off of the boards and into the venues.

Hurricanes could use one of our thursdays at Peter C's for 3 or 4 bands.

My band, Ever Since Yesterday, definitely doesn't fit the Hurricanes style, but we definitely fit the Peter C's style. If you guys didn't mind a serious change in music style, we'd do it with you.

Just my opinion but I wouldn't split up the bands all in the same night across the city. A lot of people like to see too many of the bands listed and wouldn't be able to afford to hop from bar to bar to catch everyone in a night. I think you would actually hurt the cause by thinning out everyone. Maybe a series of events would work. Make 4 or 6 (or how ever many) shows over a month or so with donations going to Rock Page.

Just an idea anyway

why not four shows. one on friday and also on saturday. three band line ups for each show. then the next week the same thing. i think PeterC's would be the best place for it. thats twelve bands. we could include thursdays into the mix also to get even more bands involved. all that would be needed is big johns aproval and dates. oh yea we would have to make sure the canes are able to give up the shows also.

You know, Pure Evil, you have a point there.

Only now do I see the flaw in my master plan. I like your idea a lot more and think we should run with it. All we have to do now is to set the dates and rock the house.

Oh, by the way, Ron? You're still down for this right?

Gravy.

It is favor time. For all the bands that are interested in playing this benefit show, could you please send me an email, or Private Message me so I can make up a list and go from there? No one else seems to be stepping up to the plate here so I figured that I might as well do it. Once I have a list, I can count up how many bands we have and then start dividing them into groups, pick nights to play and where, so on and so forth. Everything will be a group decision, of course, but someone needs to get the ball rolling. So, for all that is interested in playing this show for Rockpage, let me know.

Thanks.

I still like your master plan, just not all in one night. Ron's a good guy and this is a good site for us to have.

I dont support much, but I support Ron & Rock Page.

I cant play at any of the gigs but I'll at least go to one. That way "the page" is still getting a little of my green.

Ron's helped me in the past and I'd be glad to help him out now.

The ball has begun to roll...

...but it seems to have slowed down horribly. At the moment, I only have three bands saying that they want to participate in this benefit for Rockpage. What happened to all the steam?! Come on guys, let's get it together and sound off.

Please PM me if you are intrested in performing for the Rockpage benefit. I'm willing to go the extra mile and try to set this all up, but I can't do it without you either. Let's come together and raise some money for this excellent website.

Thanks.

Just a suggestion, but instead of waiting for bands to contact you why don't you go through the RockPage band database and email each of them with your plan to raise money for this great web site.

I wouldn't wait for bands to come to you.
