Equipment you wish you still had.

Post by CCdrums »

Due to the many times I wanted some gear but was out of cash, I was forced to sell what I had to get what I wanted. Here's a list of what I had and wished I still had, starting from first piece of equipment and onward:

Lido supreme blue sparkle drum kit - junk
Ludwig clear vistalite 9 pc. kit - wish I still had it.
Ludwig white cortex Bonham kit (26" kick drum, 14/16/18 toms, 6.5x14 supraphonoc snare - wish I still had it.
Ludwig white cortex kit, sold to Stevie McCulley...glad it found a good home.
Yamaha white recording custom kit - wish I still had it.
Yamaha red recording custom kit - wish I still had it.
Yamaha black recording custom kit - wish I still had it.
Ludwig 6.5x14 hammered bronze snare drum - wish I still had it, great sounding snare.
Ludwig 5x14 black beauty snare drum - wish I still had it.
Paiste 22" novo china cymbal - wish I still had it.
Zildjian 1978 22" Ping ride - wish I still had it.

I've got great gear now, but some of that stuff sounded great and would be nice to have around for practicing. Oh well.....

WOW Clint!.....You let a lot of stuff go. The only thing that I ever regretted selling was a 1964 "Fender Vibrolux" amp but it ended up with "Louie Brumbaugh" so I guess it went to a good cause.

For me it's the following:
Yamaha white recording custom kit - wish I still had it.
Yamaha red recording custom kit - wish I still had it.
Yamaha black recording custom kit - wish I still had it.
Yep. I wish I had Clint's Yamahas. BTW, Clint, I did approve you for the Yamaha drumming group on Yahoo, don't know if you knew that or not.

Man, do I remember the Ghost pedal! When I was growing up, my buddy Brad had one on his kit, and man did it feel great! That thing was actually the only piece of equipment from Ludwig I could stomach!

Yeah...I got the impression that you've kept just about everything you purchased. 8)

I regret selling my '78 Maple Burst Ric and my '78 Fender Jazz Bass.

i've never really had nice stuff, descent, but never really what i wanted. i always had to kind of settle and play what i could afford or scrounge. i have now the best stuff i ever owned and hopefully won't ever have to sell it, but if i do. it's only stuff. it would break my heart at this point though if i HAD to sell anything. there are guitars and amps i would love to have but am content with what i have.

i've got some buddys that are just nuts with buying this and that and then selling it, taking a beating on it, and doing it all over againa and again. it's like they are searching for something that doesn't exsist. they are more caught up in the gear than they are playing. i just don't get how you can keep losing your ass time and time again. i mean if you aint found the tone you're looking for in 20 years, chances are you probobly never will.

you come up with some good threads clint. right on!

Early 90's American Strat is the only thing i really wish I still had. It was the first really good instrument that I bought .

kinda in this category , my Dad had a Gretch Chet Atkins. he wasn't playing and said I could have it. I was living in a small apartment and didn't have much room so i said just hold onto it and I'll get it. Well a year or 2 passed and he sold it for $700. not sure of the value but the reissues are up around $2600 so an original in good condition (wich it was) is probably worth a mint. He also has an original Super Reverb that was smoking when I last played it, I gotta get that off him and fix it. Those are about $1500 for a reissue.
Don't bitch to me about the economy while you're still buying Chinese products.

Late 70's Gibson Marauder, with action done by Queensryche's guitar guy
Lawsuit Les Paul copy
'79 Strat, powder yellow (sigh)
Crate Micro-Stack
'83 Kramer custom with early Floyd Rose
'83 Squier P-Bass
plus a bunch of others I sold for groceries or other frivolities.------>JMS

69' Champagne sparkle Slingerland 4 piece. First kit, didn't know what i had. Had a couple lessons from John Mcknight on this kit.
70 Rogers 4 piece, red. Sold for i think a place to sleep.

I saw an add in Modern Drummer for a silver R.O.C kit, 8" through 18". I was in my Neil Peart faze and loved rolling through 8 toms, the kit itself was ok, single head concert toms were mahagony and easy to tune. I added a second bass drum later.

Yamaha Rock Tour Customs, 2 x 24x18, 13x13, 14x14, 16x16, 18x16.
My first big rock kit complete with yamaha rack system, i had 35 multi angle clamps and would make some crazy looking cages with upside down cymbal hangs.

2 speed king pedals from Ludwig, used them with my silver kit. This was when Thrash metal came to town, they could take a beating.

Old A series Zildjians, ive broken some of my favorites and its like losing a brother.

A 19" Zildjian K dark china, sold to Steve M, Clint and I have something in common in this thread...heh.

Wow
Well I had 2 guitars that I wish I still had

- Gibson Marauder, not sure what year it is, but I am still kicking myself for selling that one!

- I also had a 1972 Limited Edition Gibson Flying V, I bought it used from a guy! The neck on it had been broken, but repaired, it played Great! Had a plate with a number on it ( forgot the number, thinking 172 but not sure)
It fell over one night, and the neck snapped in the place it broke before! The guy I bought it off, actually came back a few years ago and bought it back off of me, cause of the sentimental value!

Honestly, I've never regretted anything I've sold. On the other hand, I haven't sold a whole lot of stuff. The only bass I've ever sold was a Cort Precision copy that I swear the neck was a recycled baseball bat. I definitely don't miss it. I've sold some things like cabs, power amps, etc., but I don't think that type of stuff has as much personal meaning as instruments do.

Like Mike says, there are a lot of cats who are constantly flipping gear. That's cool if people dig doing that, but it's never been my thing. If I find a nice bass and then a year later I find another nice bass, I don't see a point in selling the original bass just to fund the second bass. Regardless, I keep finding myself coming back to the stuff that I've been using for the past two years. Perhaps it's just being familiar, but I haven't found a bass that feels as good to my hands or sounds as good to my ears as the bass I've been playing. I've also bought a couple of cabs since purchasing my Aguilars a few years ago, but it's still the Aggies that are sitting on stage 98% of the time.

I had an Ibanez PS-10 II Paul Stanley Iceman, that was ripped off. I wish I still had it.
