Mike Dublin 1959-2003.......

Post by HurricaneBob »

One of the best set of ears to ever tweak a board is now gone. Mike was a great friend to the Canes and me for many years. He was the soundman for Hybrid Ice and also worked with Claire Brothers. Always worked with the best in town before hitting the road. Man....He fought some addictions, like alot of us, but was clean when his heart failed him. The best my drums ever sounded was with this man behind the board, on the old CSS scoops with Mike just being in town for the night and asking us if we minded him doing a mix. Hell no! we said and we knew we were getting the best bus in 10 states.

Here's to Mike Dublin....Never out of our mix...........

He worked for Clair Bros. when they were BY FAR the largest, most important concert production company in the world, at a time when there were no digital consoles, no all-in-one razzle dazzle effects boxes or dynamics controllers, and speaker cabs had to be at least the size of a Volkswagen to be effective. It was hard, thankless work, and he was good at it. I'll remember him for his "helping out on sound" just because he wanted to, not because he thought it'd make him money. He'll be missed.----->JMS

Mike will be missed. He was a character, but he also had an excellent ear.
REST IN PEACE MIKE!!!!!!

Mike was a great guy. I used to work with him at CSS systems, and we worked with several of the same bands. He and I carried a LOT of equipment up and down those treacherous stairs at the Saloon.

Last time I saw him he was on the wagon and doing well. What a shame. He sure could get those CSS scoops to pound, and he truly enjoyed mixing.

If heaven has one hell of a band, now they have one hell of a sound guy.

Does anyone know when the viewing or funeral are happening? I'd like to pay my respects.
... and then the wheel fell off.

Mike and I go back to the days of the Toyz, this may be long before many who post here were even born, but nevertheless even at that time he showed that he had that natural ability to make any band sound good. As it was previously stated this was long before we had the technology that we have today.

In the past few years Mike worked with me as part of my sound company and as the first one I would go to as the sound man for my own projects. I knew that I could count on him in every aspect to get the best job possible. He and I had a synergy that many will never know or understand.

Mike managed to fight off the daemons that this industry can bring and had very much turned his life around and was very focused on moving forward in a positive direction.

I have lost a friend, a colleague, and we have lost a true talent.

I am truly saddened by this! For those of you in our music community that did not know him for whatever reason, if you have time come to his service as it is truly one of our own that we have lost.
