Legal advice
I need some legal advice. Our band would like to rent several celebration halls and host b.y.o.b. music events. Does anyone know what the legal responsibility is (for our band and/or the hall) if by chance someone were to get into an accident after leaving one of these halls. Would we (the promoters) be held liable for injury and/or accidents? Please advise.

You can be held liable at these events thru at least two different ways:
1. Civil court punitive damages for negligence. There is no specific statute, but if somebody wants to sue, they can.
2. PA DRAM SHOP laws citing specific statutes for "social hosts"
A possible third is that the PLCB can find you negligent if monetary admission is charged at a BYOB event. Note that this is only in regards to an incident stemming from a BYOB event and not from the event itself.

...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...
Having to pay for insurance sucks.....but you need it if you want to host anything now a days...its not just the liquor liability. If someone gets toasted at your event and are underage, get in an accident....people can sue anyone. They may not win against you, but....you may have an issue when needing to pay for your own attorney to battle it for you.
We thought about basically RENTING our venue to bands and then they would run the show and we just have our bar available....but when we rent, we would have to have so many rules and then staff on board to make sure those rules were being followed...it just wouldn't be worth it.
