Mailing Lists
Mailing Lists
Are the Mailing Lists ever coming back? This was a way for alot of bands to get the word out!
Tim,
I've been trying to work this out, but because of the proliferation of spam emails across the net, today's mail servers won't allow any anonymous outgoing mail to be sent out. The only way to send mail from them is to have your own mail account on the server. It wasn't like this back when the email lists were in use on the old site.
So... there are a few options.
1. If you really want an email list w/ outgoing mail, your own email account would cost $10.00 per year. This would also give you a regular yourname@rockpage.net POP mail account. Even with this, your outgoing email would be limited to 50 mails per day. There is also a cap on the total rockpage.net mails sent out at 1000. It is doubtful this ceiling would get hit consistently, but it is still a consideration for the future.
2. I could implement the mailing lists with no outgoing mail. You would have a list, but to send mail you would have to individually copy the addresses to your email program's address book, and then send out the emails like you normally do.
The paid account is the best option, but it does cost some money (but just a little). There are other things that you would get along with the account, such as web based email (so you could check your Rockpage mail account from any web browser, like Hotmail). Each account would also have 25 megs of memory for your emails and attachments.
If anyone has other suggestions or solutions, please let me know. It's been an issue for a while now, and I would like to finally take care of it.
Ron
