Sometimes you feel like a nut

Post by lonewolf »

I have a 1986 Jackson Soloist Custom that is a nut away from original. Presently, it has a Fender LSR roller nut and I'd like to restore it back to the original spec nut. Of course, there's always that possibility of putting on a graphite nut if it works better and looks the same.

Any recommendations as to who can do this in Blair County?

Jeff,
I would try Terry at Guitar's N Stuff in Vinco. 322-3015 or
Paul, from Big Head Guitars.

I don't have very many tools, or I would do it for you.

That's awesome that it is still 99% original after 20+ years of service.
I commend you for keeping it stock. I see nice, once original guitar hacked up all the time. Actually the term is 'customized' or 'modified', whatever I don't agree with it.

Is it a regular nut, and a Kahler style 'behind the nut' locking nut on it?
I would go with the graphite also, for better tuning stability, and from about 1 foot away you would never know the difference really.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that its the Kahler version with the behind-the-nut string lock.

Where "in Blair County" are these?

I don't want to do a poker run to get a nut put on my guitar--besides, it won't fit in my saddle bags.

Jeff, were you able to find someone to work on your Jackson?

Since I'm gigging a lot and I need it for backup, I can't drop off my Jackson until I have another backup guitar. None of my other guitars are versatile enough for our show.

Fedex is supposed to deliver a black 24-fret Gibson SG today and if it will do the job, I'll take the Jackson for a new nut next week.

That's cool, I always wanted an SG.
Did you order the SG Supreme? I'm pretty sure that it's the only non custom shop SG available with 24 frets, but I could be mistaken.

It is a beautiful guitar that's for sure. I like the split inlays on it, it really add some class to it.

Its not a supreme. It is an SG-I that was routed for a 2nd pickup. The body is great and the dot fingerboard is perfect. As expected, I will have to do some work on it since it was apparently "customized" by a steakhead.

Some other SG 24 fret models include the SG-I, SG-X, SG-Z and the SG-90 Double.

You can pick them up pretty cheap (as far as SGs go)
