I have AVG Anti-Virus installed on my home computer. It has worked well with my system, and helps keep my machine safe.
In recent weeks, though, it has developed an annoying problem. When it does its automatic updates, it finishes by automatically rebooting my computer. The program doesn't give me an option (reboot later, update when I next start the computer, etc.), it just reboots right then and there. If I'm in the middle of a project, too bad.
Does anybody else use AVG? If so, have you encountered this problem, and is there any way to change settings to prevent AVG from doing the automatic reboot?

JP,
I used to use AVG, but the company pulled the plug on the free version, so I moved on and am using Avast. There should, however, be a setting option to at least ask you before re-booting. I believe you can also set the time that you want AVG to update (if my memory is correct), so you can have it reboot overnight while you're sleeping.

Dood...
Jim, I also used to use AVG and the version I had, (one of the early ones), had the option you need in the setup menu.
If the version you have doesn't this option and it gets too annoying, I would do like Kevin and use Avast, it's free and very good.
I switched from Symantec (Norton) to Avast and it was like having a new computer it ran so much better. Norton anti-virus is garbage. I have a friend who used to work for Symantec and he tells everyone not to use them for anything. Not only because they hog every resource on your computer, but also because he claims that he had to work with "secret" visitors whom he helped integrate gov't back doors into the code. Yikes.

... and then the wheel fell off.

AVG Free is still available...they just make it harder to find. Here is a link to it:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/downloads-p ... /0?prd=aff
As for your problem JP:
With the AVG control center open,
click "VIEW"
click "COMPONENTS"
click "UPDATE MANAGER"
your reboot settings come up and you can change it accordingly.
I suspect that you are using a Pre-XP operating system and that's probably why it needs a reboot every time. If you are using XP or Vista, you may want to make sure you are fully updated from Microsoft.
