HAIR BANDS RULE

Post by evh5150 »

There is alot of competitive comments out there about bands in our area but for all you youngerbands playing the alternative newer stuff go to a ucking Hair Force 1 or scream show and watch how to do a gig these bands will blow any of you away with energy and playing abilty so if you think you are the best go kiss your own @ss somewhere else. There guitarists will laugh at nirvana and that crap . There vocalists can actually sing and if your drummer thinks he is also god tell him to listen to king diamond pantera dream theather and judas priest painkiller !!!! Face it alternative is dead and HAIR metal is once again reigning supreme!!!!!

Shut UP Eddie Van Homo.

Take a prozac and continue your neverending search for band members.
I wonder why that's not working out?

By the way, didn't you say your non existant band was gonna blow hair force one away? Now you're sucking their cocks on the internet.

Also, who the fuck is playing Strictly Grunge?

That sounds so much like a radio liner!

To respond to the original post...

Not really sure how to respond. Thanks for the kudos on our playing, but I think despite what you're trying to say, you picked a really poor way to say it. I respect anyone who plays, whatever the style, and whatever the situation, as long as they are playing. That's all that matters, really.

But again, from the Scream camp, thanks for the kudos.

Rob, in that case you should change your name to "Flannel Force One".

Of course FlannelForceOneRob just doesn't have that ring to it.

Wow, thanks for ruining my self esteem, evh. I really should go kill myself because I'm not into hair metal.

Here's my view on this...not that it should make a difference for anyone; but it's my opinion:

I have nothing but respect for both bands you mentioned, evh. Both found a niche in and out of the area. They are truly accomplished musicians and are fun to watch. But, just because there are bands playing alternative stuff and not hair metal, that doesn't make them any less of a band. Cover bands, metal bands, punk bands...all have their charm and their own following. I find it funny that even members of some of the bands you praised are very modest about all the compliments...that shows good character if nothing else.

I play in a punk band. I guess that throws us in the alt. category as well. For the most part, there seems to be a good scene and all the bands (from different ends of the alt. spectrum) seem to get along well. We have a good following and have made many friends from local bands both young and old.

The hair metal revival may work for all the bar sluts, hmm wonder why we always play a song called "Bar Sluts" at bar shows...

Don't blame EVH for being a retard. He's just being a male groupie. Here's some good advice for everyone...go see what you like.

Hmm. "youngerbands". Geez. Well, I was a teenager during the "Hair Metal"
thing's "heyday" (Or...Hairday) AND I, quite proudlky and happily play, in an
"Alternative" band and look forward to doing so for quite some time.

Have respect for HF1, Scream and anyone who chooses to play that style. No
doubt they do so incredibly and do a great show. Just not the kind of stuff I like
or want to play.

AND, I'm sure a lot of people in other bands etc. would feel the same about the
stuff we play. And, that's a good thing, I think.

Have taught gtr a good bit and in the late 80s, in particular, this is was the stuff
that I was teaching. Have, will admit it, played my share of the stuff at times.
Can't BELIEVE I've actually played a Britney Fox song...Sheesh.

So, being ABLE to play it, my friend, isn't always the issue you seem to think.
Again, though, just not a style I like to play or listen.

I talk pretty much every day to a guy who plays Blues/R&B/Rockabilly/Bluegrass,
etc. who's never played a Pantera-esque solo in his life. Wait...He's sitting 20
feet from me. I'll ask him. Nope. Never. However, he can play stuff on a mandolin
that will melt your face just due of proximity effect.

Our shows certainly have energy. I sweat half to to death every show. I'm pretty
sure a lot of bands NOT H.M. have energy. See a hardcore show lately? I'll bet
there are some great country bands around here that play with energy to spare.
Ever seen RGR?

"There is alot of competitive comments out there"

Irony? The statement true, however...and they're all pretty....let's say...misguided.

Think it's great you want to compliment these bands and they're certainly
deserving... just think you'd do well to find a more thought-based way to do it.

Interesting. Oh well. I'm pretty sure I know who this person is and if they are genuine, then thank you. If it is how Sanchez says, that's fine too. We've never ran from a challenge from an upstart band in our genre. We had this happen to us before. Anyone remember Stainless? No? Exactly. In the end, the people decide who is better and who is not as good. It isn't any of us, so talk away if that's what you're doing. We'll do ours on stage.

OK! How many Hair bands are actually still recording and selling as many albums as they did in the 80's? Thats what I thought! Hair Metal is Dead, Plain and Simple. Now i will give credit where credit is due and Hair Force One is a group of awesome musicians but THey arent even playing their own music! They are just regurgitating old crap that has been done sooo many times. Wow dude, I can play a CC Deville Solo! Big Fuckin Deal, Go write your own solo! Also, I havent really seen a grunge band In years. Plenty of Metal but not Grunge.

This is in no way an attack at Hair Force One or Scream, Both are awesome at what they do. As far as hair metal goes, I personally think that its dead and gone and all of you can return to the 80's if you want but I prefer to stay where Real Metal Thrives!

Oh well Rob. I guess we must not be doing too bad if we are the measuring stick for that type of music. It's cool. Maybe I'll send them a copy of PA Musician Magazine this month. By the way, once we get some more clubs out east, we'll have to see if the club would be interested in doing a BD/HF1 show.

Cool beans, and yes, it's true, usually, if you're setting the bar, you become the primary target for attacks.

Well, I don't take it as an attack Matt. You don't like what it is we do. Fine. I would probably hate the music you do. Agree to disagree there. However, I'll educate you on one major point. The music still has a very strong following. Case in point, Rocklahoma. Anyone hear of this festival? All 80's hair bands in a kind of Woodstock style outdoor festival in Oklahoma. I know the obvious joke would be "Yeah, look where they are playing. In a hick state." However, the area is kind of centralized for any touring band to take part in the festival and still tour on their own. There is already a huge buzz about the show based on who is there. Case two is the current Poison/Ratt/White Lion tour. Every Poison show I've ever been to is packed to the rafters. Like it or not, Poison is every bit as popular as they were in '88. Finally, Bon Jovi is still going strong and playing sold out shows in arenas to this day. I won't even mention in great detail the other bands that are still going out there and doing what they do, but I'll give you a short list of names: Def Leppard, Firehouse, Kix, Great White, Quiet Riot, Dokken, Motley Crue, Whitesnake, Tesla, Skid Row, Warrant. These bands are still packing wherever they play, so to say the music is dead is highly doubtful. Also, take a look at our attendance at shows. The age range is pretty wide. College aged people to older people and everything in between. Regardless of the songs we're playing, we are drawing a large demographic of people. And for the record, we don't always play the most popular stuff. We'll throw in something technical, heavy, or obscure and in most cases, it still goes over. You may or may not be able to play a CC DeVille solo, but try doing the dual lead in "I Don't Believe In Love" from Queensryche or "Headed For A Heartbreak" from Winger and tell me 80's music is not every bit as hard as your Tool song. It's just presented differently.

Exactly. DrumAndDestroy did a good job in his post. I am not limited to what I like. I'm not strictly a hair band fan. I like old punk. Misfits are awesome. I love metal like Maiden, King Diamond, and Pantera. I'm into the Euro movement like Edguy, Stratovarius, and Nightwish. It's all in what you like. If you aren't a fan of hair metal, that's great. I'm not out to win hearts and minds. Just like every other band out there isn't trying to make people like what they do. If you like us or any other band, you go to see us. If not, you don't. Simple as that. You like what you like for a reason. So who are any of us to say what other people should be into?

I like bands that play a variety of rock styles, 50s thru 00s, including 80's hair metal with CC DeVille solos.

THIS OPINION IS NOT MEANT AS A PLUG FOR THE ROCKING VARIETY BAND:

THE VERGE

I will chip in with one final thing, directed at Matt (UNEARTHAX7matt, that is):

Please don't turn this into an originals vs. covers argument...again. We've all been there done that before here on Rockpage, and it gets us nowhere. Originals are all good, and covers are all good, at least we all have the balls to get onstage and do what we do, covers or originals, from metal to bluegrass, we're one community providing entertainment for the masses.

Maybe I'm stepping out of line, but I did get offended by you busting on HF1 or cover bands in general for doing what we do. Yes, I'm sensitive to it. And as I said before in another argument about it, it's all good. Writing music is a talent that I have readily admitted that I don't have. I wish I did, but some can do it, some can't. But I promise you that Phillip and Michael (from HF1) can play rings around most guitarists in the area, and both have been involved in original music before. Just because we choose to play covers doesn't mean that we don't or won't write originals.

And here's some food for thought: Originals are awesome, and I dig seeing original bands. But when you write originals, you're playing your own style, not that there's anything at all wrong with that.

But (using my band for an example) Scream plays a show, we have to cop the licks, feel, style, and sound of anywhere from 40-60 different artists in ONE NIGHT. Like it or not, there is talent in that. It ain't easy to go from playing one to the next, and keeping the feel to the original artist. I know that Scream, Hair Force One, and bad daZe all strive to present the music we play in the exact way that it was originally presented, and we all bust our collective butts practicing and rehearsing to do so. And no offense, but when someone tells me that a band has no talent because we're covering music, that just pisses me the hell off.

Original music rocks. Cover bands rock. It's all f*cking good as long as we're onstage playing.

Sorry for the rant, I'm done with this thread.
Dood...
