Van Halen, R.E.M., Grandmaster Flash, the Ronettes, and Patti Smith (Patti Smith?!).

What kind of world is this, when Patti Smith and Grandmaster Flash (and Blondie previously) are inducted before Rush?

please, not again

rtd, ther are some serious pickers playing country music. vince gill is a fucking monster player along with many others, but he's got a really cool thing going on. i wa sjust watching a live performance of Oklahoma Borderline and he was tearing it up. i 've been diggin alot of that stuff lately. i think it's the singing that turns me from being a huge fan of country. but you can't deny, that it s definitly some groovin stuff.

Vince Gill is a freakin' monster player. I definitely agree about that.

It sucks that Rush hasn't been inducted, but as I said before, these types of things are political in nature anyways. I've never given a shit about these award ceremonies. The Grammies are just an excuse to kiss the asses of the people who made the record industry the most money that year.

I suppose that the Hall of Fame is a little more prestigious, but it's still politics too. Either way, I'm definitely going if I ever find myself in Cleaveland.

The Van Halen induction includes David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar, but not Gary Cherone. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Then again, the Black Sabbath induction didn't include Dio. Bastards.

Unfortunately, there isn't much of a "record industry" anymore. In this
day and age of Ipods, internet music, etc. it will only get worse in terms of politics. I feel it is sad that artists don't get their "whole album" heard as much as in the past. People download one or two songs and that is it. Many of my favorite bands/artists have great B-sides and other music that goes unnoticed by the general public. Sad state of affairs?

I agree 100% that there are way more deserving than Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five (why & how are they in?) and Patti Smith (what has she ever done?) and several others.

I was watching Heart in concert on PBS Sunday night and thought why are they not in the R&R Hall of Fame and some of these other ones are?

There is quite an impressive list of artists who are eligible with many of them way more talented and had more influence than some of thos inducted. Here are just some of the eligible artists I think should be at the top of the list:

The Ventures
The Moody Blues
Kansas
Heart
Yes
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Jethro Tull
The Guess Who
The Dave Clark Five
Alice Cooper (the entire band)

Sad maybe, but reality nonetheless. Its up to musicians to adapt to the current industry. Your true fans will always get all of your songs anyway. And there will always be shows and tours, thats what most important. To me anyway.

I agree with you Baceman about the musician aspect, but what I'm
referring to is the fact that it really isn't the fans that determine if you
get into the Hall of Fame. This in fact is certainly a political matter when
you see who actually gets in. Talk to most musicians (at least most I know) and ask who their influences are, chances are many of those folks won't be on the Hall of Fame list (as indicated in other posts on this thread).

I wonder how much recieving awards and being inductedin to the HOF has to do with 'your people' at the record companies. Alot I would imagine. Sooner or later Rush will get in. As long as they dont bet on baseball, then lie about it.

If the recording industry rewards/thanks artists for making them tons of money by giving them a place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, then why haven't Badfinger gotten in yet? Pete Ham & Tom Evans wrote the standard "Without You", covered by hundreds of other artists from what I understand. Most recently, Mariah Carey had a huge hit with it in the 90's.
Badfinger was certainly influenced by the Beatles, as were most other bands, but were not copyists (for those who may argue that they were). They were true original artists who could stand on their own whose short-lived career should not be forgotten but recognized by induction into the Hall of Fame. Until then, at least a Grammy was awarded several years ago to the writers of "Without You", Pete Ham & Tom Evans - RIP. Also, original drummer Mike Gibbins - RIP.

I fucking hate KISS more than just about anything, but for the life of me I can't understand why they aren't in the RRHoF yet. It seems like such a natural thing-glitzed up posers selling TONS of albums. Fuck, they were made for it. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I refuse to accept the validity of the RRHoF until they induct KISS.
