I received Head today and I am expecting speaker Cab tomorrow.
Look at the quality of the Tolex... Think I should send it back.. I saved a long time to buy a decent 1/2 stack and as soon as I take the plastic off I almost shit myself.
You're not going to be getting a substitute for a JCM800, but I've always been impressed with Marshall's solid-state stuff. It's real clean sounding and has a tight low-end.
Though my own bias is that I'm kind of sick of the Marshall tone. I think that it's been overdone and is cliche. As a bass player, I'm not an Ampeg guy either. But play whatever you dig. If you're hearing a Marshall tone in your head, then get the Marshall. Personally when it comes to that open mid-range guitar tone, I like the sound of a more ballsy gain; so I'd be more partial to something like a Bogner or even something like a Carvin Legacy.
Hope you enjoy your new rig! I'm expecting a new QSC power amp to arrive for myself tomorrow. I don't get into holidays all that much, but when the UPS or Fedex guy drops off new gear, it's like Christmas for me.

Buddy Dee uses one of those MG heads and I played thru it for a couple of songs when they warmed up the Clarks last September. Its not a bad rig, but like Paul said, it ain't no JCM800. I've owned most of the JCM series amps and the JCM2000 kick the most ass.
I also owned an MG412 cabinet. I sold it to TornandFrayed for $120. It was a great sounding cabinet, but the stock speakers suck. The magnets are the size of hockey pucks and their vintage voicing is a little overdone. At one point, I replaced the speakers with Celestion Neo Century Vintage speakers and the cabinet sounded as good as a stock 1960 cab. I would still have that cab if not for getting a custom snakeskin 2-12 that I won't part with.
I think the voicing of those speakers are meant to work with the MG head, so you should have a decent sounding rig when it comes in.
...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...
You can't beat Musiciansfriend when they have a good deal going on. When Aguilar was discontinuing their S series cabinets to make way for the DB series, I ended up with two 4x10s at a most excellent price. They were one of the best gear deals I've ever found (though my dad still beats me by scoring a Rickenbacker 4001 for $300 ). As much of an Edenite I am, the Aguilars are just so aggresive sounding, making them fit really well with our music. The horn/x-over is by far one of the best I've ever heard. I still love Eden, but I think that I'm going to stick with Aguilar. I'd like one of their chocolate-colored (Snickers?) DB 4x10s one day. I love talking about cabinets!

P.s. UPS rescheduled the delivery date on my power amp, so it won't be arriving until Monday. It looks like my trusty RMX850 will still be playing the gig tomorrow night.
