Genz-Benz : Just curious
Genz-Benz : Just curious
I had recently considered purchasing a Genz-Benz rackmount bass head.
I have a Hartke head currently and am not currently playing bass much,
but was curious if anyone has used or owned a Genz-Benz to get feedback
on them. Any thoughts or input? Thanks!

Genz-Benz: By far the most clean and pristine sounding bass rig I've ever played through! If you're looking for something modern and hifi, the Genz will be a great investment. If you're looking for something more along the lines of an SVT, I would probably recommend something else first. Either way, GB is top-notch stuff and is very professional.
It will be miles ahead of your Hartke head, but that could possibly be my own bias - I've always liked Hartke's cabs but I always found their heads to be very "boxy" sounding.

Thanks Paul!
One of the main reasons I'm looking at other heads is because the
Hartke head I have is a HA2000. It only puts out 200 w @ 4 ohms.
I bought it mainly just to have a head to jam around or as a back up
for the band. It also doesn't have a DI, so it needs a direct box when
hooked up to FOH (pain in the ass). I sold a full Fender BXR system
due to it not being used for several years (and collecting dust). It was
a biamp/stereo system and worked great! It was also loud and punchy!
It is one of those kick yourself in the ass for selling it deals! I've had
other Fender, Yamaha, Carvin, etc, setups over the years.
I'm looking to get a decent head that has more power (to run through
a Hartke 8 ohm cab) and a DI hopefully with pre/post and possibly a
level control. I also don't want to spend too much $.
Not a pressing issue/need, but you know how we musicians always want
more (equipment, etc.)!

No problem Scott! Like I said, the Genz will be a great head. Paired with a Hartke cab, it will probably be a hifi monster, especially if you're a pick player/slapper.
Also, if you're looking for a powerful and affordable head with a nice EQ section, Kustom puts out a nice unit called the Groove Bass. It may be well worth looking into.

Tim,
No hints, I just like to have back up equipment/extras just in case. I've always been kinda anal that way, but it has also saved me on occasions in the past. I love the sound of your Eden/Spector setup. I played bass for a full gig back in Dec.05' because Seanson had to be out of town (right after John's heart attack and John's first night back with the band). That was my first time in years and I did enjoy it, but I also enjoy playing guitar! It isn't easy to switch like that (i.e. guitar to bass) due to fret spacing, etc. It is fun though to play bass once in a while given that I did play bass for so many years! Variety is the spice of life!

And while you're probably not in the market for a new cab, if you want to stick to aluminum drivers, Gallien Krueger has recently introduced a new line of cabinets loaded with gold aluminum drivers. They're very cool looking and also very affordable. If I were looking for a cool practice cabinet that could still be gigged, I'd definitely be considering one.
