Rockstar Supernova - What Are They Thinking?

Post by moxham123 »

This goes into the what are they thinking category.

Did anybody see the finale of Rockstar Supernova and see who Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted, and Gilby Clarke picked to be the lead singer for their new band, Supernova. They picked Mr. Mumbles Lukas Rossi. You can't understand half of what he is singing. They passed over the two best singers in the whole bunch - Magni and Toby.

So much for wanting somebody who can actually sing to front a so called "supergroup".

Oh, well. That's your opinion and picking Lukas was Supernova's opinion.

Personally I thought Toby was the best. But, as you should know, there's more to picking a musician for a group than just talent alone. Creativity, attitude, the list goes on.

And really, I could give a shit because it's my opinion that Gilby Clark sucks, I don't care for Tommy Lee, and Jason does nothing for me either. It's a group I won't be listening to anyway.

The first and only time I watched this show was while I was sitting at a bar about a month ago. I couldn't get over how fake and pretentious the whole thing was. I highly doubt that the public at large is going to buy into this. My prediction is that the first album's going to flop, and we're never going to hear from this band again. It's a shame too, because Navarro, Clarke, Newsted, and Lee are all excellent players; but they need to quit parading on reality television (especially Navarro and Lee) and get back to creating kick ass music.

They have to change their name.

Personally, I liked Dilana. She wasn't the best song writer but, her voice was good to my ears and her show was awesome. Plus, she's hot, so bonus there.

I also agree with the comment about how fake it was....But, it is a blast watching the house band. Rafael is a world class guitarist and would crush both Navarro and Gilby Clarke in a shred off with one hand.

I, whoeheartedly, agree that the house band was unbelievably fantastic. I would pay to go see them way before Supernova or Dave Navarro's new band, Panic Channel.

They left a lot of talent go a month ago. They gave that Jill chick a hard time about doing too much with the Simple Minds songs, and then they gave the other girl a hard time about not doing enough with a Police song. I really don't understand them, especially that douche Gilby.

I've been wondering all along why the kid with the skunk doo was still there. Maybe that's why I got a hair cut and a real job.

Absolutely, especially if they have Magni and Dilana fronting them. Gilby must have shit a brick every time he went up to play, knowing he'd come across like a solid sideman rather than the guitar hero they billed him as.

Lukas? I dunno. They said he got the most votes, which is weird because he's so polarizing. Either you love him or hate him. But maybe they didn't want to play it safe with somebody more vanilla. Bravo for that. Although Zayra was easier on the eyes if they wanted to hire a freak.

Did anyone find it odd that they spliced Lukas into a Survivor commercial before they even announced he won? That's a spoiler right there, methinks.

I like Lucas...and pegged him from the beginning. There was a lot of talent there in general...sure beats Idol. I thought that Lucas stood out...but slightly fit the rockstar profile a bit too closely (if that makes sense).

I tend to agree with the bunch of you in the bands overall future - without question - only one CD will be produced and I highly doubt we will see any kind of a tour - maybe just a few promo concerts?

The house band was incredible...and I would love to see them put out a CD.

And one last thing...they should have ran a contest - anyone guessing the number of times that Tommy Lee licked his lips...should have won a car. (And if you never noticed his nervous habit - sorry that I pointed it out - because you won't be able to look at him again with out seeing it

I picked Lukas as the winner on the first show. I thought he sucked ass, but he had image. I too, thought the house band was better than anything the other guys could cobble together.------>JMS

I pegged Lukas from the beginning as well. He had the frontman swagger. I also pegged JD last year for INXS for the same reason. Some people have it, and some don't. I thought Toby would be a better choice though.

All the Gilby bashing....his solo work is great. Pawnshop Guitars is an immacualte album. Plus his work with GNR, Heart, MC5, etc. is respectable.

JD was definitely the only one who "got it" last year. No one else sexed up the material half as much as he did.

As far as Gilby goes, I take nothing away from him as a musician, but this wasn't the sort of environment where he could shine. The show was all about trying to upstage the next guy, and Gilby's craft is more subtle than that.

Magni fell victim to the same thing. He might have been the best singer there, with great nuance and detail to his phrasing. But they constantly took him to task for not being sufficiently over-the-top.

I'm with you here, you conservative piece of $hit ... LOL ... I wouldn't have bought a CD with any of the contestants (from the beginning) at the helm.

I'm still confused as to where they're doing their talent scouting for this show, including the last season. I found all the contestants to be fair at best ...

My guess is that any pro-level vocalist wouldn't want to piss his or her credibility down the toilet by partaking in such a show. That's why the show was filled with hacks and mediocre singers. *LOL*

Yea man, i saw that and said the same thing. I was sitting on the couch with my friend danielle at the time, and we noticed that, and she was like "i wonder why they showed just him in that commercial" and the first thing i thought was that the little pecker won, and they accidently aired the commercial early
