Les Paul advice

Post by tonefight »

I never owned a les Paul, I did have a studio briefly years ago but it was beat when I got it and I never did much to it.

A guy my wife works with sends a Les Paul Deluxe home with her for me to look at, he wants to sell it. I restrung it and noticed a slight upwards curve to the neck, it plays great and doesn't fret out anywhere, action is low so it seems all is fine, I'm just wondering if the slight curve is normal for a Les Paul since all my strat and strat style guitars have a completely flat neck. I really don't wanna mess with the truss rod wether I decide to buy it or not, just wanna know if this is normal.

Also these seem to be going in the $1200 - $1500 range in perfect conditionbut this one has a bent tuner, some minor scrapes and a pretty good gouge in the wood on the side right above the pickup selector. Any idea what these flaws would lower the value ?

I'm guessing anything under $800 is stealing it, I'm going to watch prices for a little bit. I'd like to not pay more than $800.

Really $800 is about all it is worth it is marked up like you said and has a big gouge in the wood and if you have to replace a tuner or all of them if they are the shitty vintage keystone tuners, they dont hold tune for shit. I dont know why Gibson still insists on using them on their guitars. If it were me I would try to get it for right around $700 and you can tell him that it would cost a minimum of $500 to repair and refin that guitar back to factory fresh condition.
