Shooter Jennings?

Post by Bag »

He and his band, "The 357's" opened for 3 Doors Down and Skynyrd on Sunday night in Hershey. They ROCKED! I had never even heard of the guy before. I guess he's Waylon Jennings' son. Anyone here ever listen to their CD's? I think he said their new one is called "Electric Rodeo."

3 Doors Down kinda sucked. They did have the coolest lighted drum riser and backdrop though. I didn't think I knew any of their songs, but I probably knew 5 or 6 of the ones they played. I musta heard them on Qwik Rock and didn't know (or care :? ) who the band was. Don't get me wrong, the musicianship was good but the songs just aren't my "Bag."

Skynyrd was a bit disappointing too. We go to see them at least once a year and this was probably the 2nd worst show of their's that I've seen. (1st place goes to the BJC show a few years ago.) I've always been a Hughie T. fan, and he's no longer there. I heard he is re-forming the Outlaws. The guy taking his place is kinda goofy looking. :( Also Johnny VZ has put on about 100 pounds since last year. That bothered the wifey! They just seemed to be going thru the motions or something. It was VERY hot, so maybe that had something to do with it.

BTW, Ricky Medlocke came out on stage with Shooter and did a KICKASS version of "Train, Train." Very cool!

My first exposure to Shooter was on a CMT special about a year ago called Outlaws (it just re-ran this past week) where he did some duets with Hank Jr. and I think his mom? He sang his dad's parts to some classic Waylon tunes.

He also played his father in Walk The Line.

Unfortunately, I haven't actually made an effort to hear any of his own stuff. Myabe that should be next on my agenda?

He has a video running on the CMT channell that kicks ass!! I was watching it and just trying to figure out who this band was, and did not even know who Shooter Jennings was. Then found out about him, and I think he is the best thing going on in country right now. Or as they call it "Outlaw Country"....its just kick ass rock and roll with a smokin Tele player.

Here is his webpage.

I give Shooter credit, the boy comes out looking all 70's redneck and just sayin " this is me take it or leave it".

As far as Skynard goes, i saw a recent live clip from them and Yes they were definatly just going through the motions but I would too after playing the same songs for 30 years. They tried to write new ones but noone wants to hear 'em they wanna hear the classics.

Shooter Jennings kicks ass just like his dad did ! I can't get the dish because of to many trees in the way so CMT is all I have for a music channel, damn it , but I love all of their southern rock and outlaw country stuff !

Shooter is pretty cool, I like his stuff. I thought skynyrd was done with the VZ brothers releasing the country cd. Another good one is Hank III ...

I'm defintely interested in checking out Shooter's stuff. Albeit his part was small, but it was cool to see him in Walk the Line.

I agree about 3 Doors Down. I think that they're solid musicians and all, but their songs never really did anything for me.

He had a song on his first album called "4th of July" (???). It's one of the first things I throw in the CD player in my truck on a sunny day with the windows down.....great driving song to sing along to

Here is a better place to view 3 of his vidoes. After watching them 2 times, I think this is some of the best new music I have seen in a long long time.

I am now a big Shooter Jennings fan.

Thanks UCJoe! :D

"Steady at the Wheel" is how about 75% of their show was. Rockin shit! 8) They did all 3 of those songs.

I think I'm buying the 2 CD's!

Bingo. Shooter is the only child to Waylon and Jessie Colter. I read in an interview that Shooter is Waylon's only kid to go into music. In that same interview, even though he started out playing country music, he said he kept hearing something like Skynard meets Guns n Roses in his head.
