This may be kind of late and everything but the constant battle between original bands and cover bands should stop. Even though we don't like each others kind of music maybe we should for one night get together for a good cause and do a cover night. Where original bands do cover songs. along with cover bands. No matter what songs they are whether they are metal or rock.

And one night do something where the cover bands come up with original music and play along side the orignal bands. I don't know it could be because i was drinking and i am writing this but i think that it would be cool and fun to do. What do you think.

I think something for charity would be cool. Something like the one voice musical showcase or something like that. Ha i think that is what it was called sorry dave :D

Rice, it's nice to see you reaching out like that. I'm in total agreement with you about the covers vs originals argument, it's weak and played out here on Rockpage, and I think that the vast majority of Rockpagers would agree.

One gentle correction, though, just because we play covers or originals doesn't mean that we don't like each others music. Some of my favorite local bands are original bands, and some are cover bands. It's all good, my friend.

Your idea is way cool, having original bands knock out some covers, and maybe have some cover bands do some originals. It would be really cool to have some cover bands do some local original bands' music! That was brought up in another thread here somewhere...

Anyway, it's a great idea!
Dood...

I thinkm it oughta be local local just to encourage our local songwriters and original artists.

A while back one of the acoustic duo's covered "a different kind of blues", I couldn't have been more proud or flattered, I think EVERY local artist deserves to feel that.

I always came from the school that you started out playing covers to get a crowd and build a following. Then, as a band, when things got tighter, you started writing stuff.

Hopefully, you started to develop a little of a following and you sprung your originals on your following and hopefully things will develop from there.

I still believe that to be true. I am able to play some great songs I enjoy, play for an actual crowd, make some actual money and write and try out my own music on an audience. My group is working on a recording project as we speak.

Those of you who feel you have to be either all original or all cover are all absolutely ridiculous. Like FEDUP said, "Do your own thing."

Whatever works for you is what you should do. Again, if bands would come together more, you might find a change of attitudes in different area "scenes" --- maybe.

I also feel that there is a place for all music. You just have to find it and when you do, capitalize on it.
