What is Your "Guilty Pleasure"?

Post by AtoMikEnRtiA »

Yeah - nice little discussion topic.. about those little things we enjoy, but dont like to admit it sometimes..

so what is your "guilty pleasure"?

Mine - I kinda like 1980s electronic pop music - that shit you hear in 80s movies - I just realized this over the course of this week when I watched "The Breakfast Club" for like the 1000th time, and "Back to School" and realized, the music in these movies are really catchy and make you feel good..

this probably isn't a big deal for people who are in their middle twenties, but I cant really say I was an 80s kid, being born in 1985.. but yeah, the music - kinda enjoy it..

and yes Keith, im sure this is worth a deduction of like, 3 metal points..
"okay we got da right and fruffy panacakes. ooooooh ver goood you get da rittre bruberries, too!"

Old Country and Bluegrass. Not such a big deal anymore since the whole punkabilly trend, but back in the day people thought I was borderline retarded for listening to Flatt & Scruggs or some old Hank. But one thing I have learned in my 28 years........Fuck what everyone else thinks. :P

WORD.
My guilty pleasure's Southern Gospel, and it's my wife's fault. Look at her CD collection... RATM, Stuck Mojo, Pantera, and, um... The Gaither Vocal Band!
I also appreciate late 70's-early 80's disco a lot more now than then. It was pre-hiphop, no sequencers/drum machines, and though the lyrics are stoooopid, the melodies are sometimes very catchy.----->JMS

Yeah I got a confession SATAN likes Genesis and Phil Collins but just listen to that Dude play. Phil is awesome on drums and a hell of a vocalist. Thank god they got rid of Peter Gabriel.

A boy named Sue - Johnny Cash

Always look at the bright side of life - Monty Python

Frank's wild years - Tom Waits (you have to hear this to believe it)

the more dark and twisted the better

New Wave, definitely. Perfect little pop songs, but still weird enough to make your brain perk up and pay attention.

Alternative Hip-Hop is another fave, although it's really doesn't sound like either alternative or hip-hop. Anything Danger Mouse gets messed up in will find its way into my collection.

Ace of Base - The Bridge was a very well-written and produced album. Pop music can have a lot of artistic merit.
"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.

I love Drum Corps, Marching band stuff, and Orchestral Movie Themes a lot. Danny Elfman kicks a lot of ass!

Ditto! I could listen to a good marching band all day! Especially If it's got lots of low brass!

MUSIC:

• A lot of Kelly Clarkson's stuff.
• Prince (musical and instrumental genius, BTW).
• Anything '80s. All the music from that era — every style — makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, mainly because it takes me back to a time when I didn't ache all over just from a little physical exertion.

GENERAL:

• Mayonnaise and bacon on everything.
• Lord of the Rings ... can watch those movies 1,000 times over.
• Cannibus and math at the same time. I love balancing the checkbook while "herbally enhanced."

Simon & Garfunkle and Peter, Paul & Mary - still have my original vinyls from when I was a little kid - and of course I have them on CD (and yes, my teenager looks at me like I have three heads when I listen to them and sing along :)

I'm still waiting for someone to say MJ, then defend him and him/herself.

Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. My parents used to play his stuff all the time when I was a kid, I grew to like it. Before I discovered rock and roll, there was "Zorba the Greek."

Interesting..........how weve reached a point that we feel guilty listening to genres of music that dont fit our lifestyle, look, or cliche whatever you call it, almost like the album 2112 by RUSH. music has become so commercialized that you have to feel guilty listening or admiting to listening to a certain style. hmmmmmm ive never been able to play just one type of music, if it moves me i try to learn it, of course people get confused thats where the whole money thing comes in. how many of you quit playing songs you love because the audience didnt respond to them??! i
