Are you talking to me ?

I have many friends / acquaintances of many ethnic origins. We can communicate because they speak English.

if I lived in their country, I would learn their language and customs out of respect.

okay im going to be serious for this post, your putting words in peoples mouth man. this is about language and if you move to any country even here and you want to get a job, and live amongst the other citizens you should learn the native language.

Even India recognizes the importance of standardizing English as an associate official language:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_ ... s_in_India

English is the de facto standard language of the United States. All our federal and state laws are officially written and archived in English. 31 states have legislated English as their official language and most of the others have pending legislation, including PA.

The bottom line in business: If a job requires primary communication in English, a Spanish speaking human being is simply not qualified for the position.

While in Germany, I had the father of a girl I was dating sit down with me almost every night and take turn doing shots of schnapps or vodka and learned German with him. He was cool that way. The coolest thing about all of this way, she had a great uncle that served with the SS during WW2. He hated Americans. While eating dinner, he kept saying how no good American GIs were because all we came over there to do was screw the women and leave unwanted babies.
Not knowing that I almost fully understood what he was saying, I blasted him in German that my intentions for his niece were honorable and that if by any chance she became preggers I would marry her and take care of her and the baby.
After dinner, he showed me all his shit from the SS and until the day I broke up with her we were friends.
My advice, if you are in a country where English is a second language, learn the first. If you are in America, learn to speak the language. Too many FRANK BURNS' out there who think just because you are an American in a different country you should learn to speak English and vise versa
Having talent is one thing....what you do with it is something else

I say learn English, but not because I personally have a problem with anyone. English is the international language of commerce. The Chinese have been teaching it to schoolkids for years, not to take over the US, but to make money from us. If you want to do business, learn the language of business.
Plus, if you don't care enough to assimilate into any culture (including our own) to at least learn to communicate, then that culture should not have to accomodate you. Assimiliation is a two-way street.--->JMS
