What's with all the new sponsorships all of a sudden?
don't let the Altoona music scene turn into a corporate advertising force! don't bend over and take it from the MAN! fight to stay independent! make music for music's sake! screw big business!!!!

To some extent Musicmadman you're right. Many alsohol companies will sponsor just about any band with minimal talent. If you do research you'll find maybe two alcohol/liquor companies that require talented, touring bands. In return these sponsors publish the bands web site link on their own site, they give the bands tons of free swag which helps generate patrons(everyone loves freebies), and if you're lucky, a certain sponsor will also have their own music tour. So if you do the research and bust your ass...sponsors will help you as much as you help them.

This is the kind of crap we DON'T need in the music scene, the negativity. Hey Madman, how about congratulating someone instead of running down their sponsorship? Be positive about things, and maybe you will get somewhere in this town.
Most up and coming bands have a hard time affording swag, tabletoppers, banners and the like, and any kind of sponsorship helps. I've been sponsored too, and it's a huge financial relief, even if your band saves 50 bucks a month that you would have been spending at Kinko's getting schedules run off.
I say congratulations to all the recent sponsorships with some of the areas bands, and to those who would be negative...how about getting your own sponsorship from SHUT THE HELL UP.
POSITIVITY ROCKS.

I'm not saying LOST LEDNY'S sposnosrhsip is better than anyone elses. Any sponsorship looks good. I'm just saying that there are some companies, like noted, that really don't help the bands out. They only sponsor a band to benefit their company. I'm saying that there are only two companies that I would want backing up my guys. I researched these things and that was my conclusion. The sponsor LEDNY is working with isn't all about pushing their company first. They want a band that is professional and will bring respect to their company. If LEDNY is half-assed it could hurt this company's image. So they are selective in who they work with. That is why LEDNY is only in a "trial run" stage. They have to prove they are a legit and both parties will benefit.
I'm also working with local companies as sponsors. A tattoo place for example is a good starter sponsor. The company gives the guys free clothing to wear at gigs, the band benefits from freebies(clothes) and the tattoo place benefits in free advertisement to the masses. In return we ask that the tattoo place plays their cd while doing tats. Someone getting tatted likes what they hear and then the band gets free advertisment in return. Also the tat place can give the band members discounts on tats. People always coment on tats and if a person likes some ink and asks who did the work, then we say the sponsors name...word of mouth advertisement...best kind! It has to be a win/win situation or it isn't worth having your name attached to.

Jay,
My apologies, perhaps I was reading too deeply into your post. I do agree that there are some companies who offer 'sponsorships' only to get the additional free promotion... With that being said, as far as a band is concerned, any help with promotion is appreciated and the clout of having a major name beside yours is worth whatever they get from the manufacturer.
I hope everything works out with the new sponsorship, and look forward to checking out Ledny soon

So, like everything in life, you have to work for things. Some sponsors are better than others. Some are worse. Some hand you over exorbanent (sp?) amount of money and hand outs. Some hand you out dk. Some you have to bend over backwards for. And some you just have to show loyalty with out much work. Again, that's with life. Sometimes good things are handed to you. With a lot of hard work. Or just getting lucky. And sometimes you get a bad deal too.
If the bands are happy, then be happy for them and show your support. Y'all screaming at each other and saying it's stupid to have "little" sponsorships aren't going to make anyone feel good. And if you don't agree that the sponshorships are that great of a thing, state it. Don't go telling each other to shut the hell up. It's pointless. Make it a discussion. That's what the boards are for. If you had a bad time with a sponsor, give names and examples and help them learn to be careful with sponsors. Share the wisdom, share the wealth.
Yey to all of you that got your sponsors. Whether it's fifty bucks or five thousand, it's a great start. Local music (and their sponsors) rock!

Jealousy
I am very happy for all those who receive sponsorships. I think that any step towards covering the costs of running and promoting a band is a good thing. I also feel that maybe some people would like to have a sponsorship, even a small subpar one, and don't. Life is too short to worry abou the things that you cannot control, it is hard enough making the decisions effecting the things that you do control. Be happy for each other and take each victory for local music as a victory for the local music scene, we all win! Congratulations!

Sponsorships
Well, this has stirred up the proverbial pot,if I could just weigh in on this subject for whatever it's worth. In Banditos case,we could use the
FREE promo stuff Coors has offered (t-shirts,banners,etc)Because none of that stuff is really cheap to buy yourselves, that said, they have no control of what or where or any other decisions dealing with us as a band.I think any band that gets a pile of free stuff without signing anything would be foolish not to accept it,furthermore, they came to us we didn't go to them,I actually like Coors Light so I said SURE.Having had a relationship with a different beer giant in the past when I was with Ozone where we played their sponsored events such as in between innings at a baseball game was'nt the kind of thing I was locked into this time so I said sure. It's still all about fun and booze and boobs for us,not trying to take anything too seriously yet not taking anything for granted either. So rock-on lads and thanks again to Mark and Seth from Inco and Coors.
