Re: Active pickups
No,you need to use 25k pots,I know if you go with EMG's they come with all the wiring and pots. You can use the 500k's but they will act like an on/off switch.evh5150 wrote:does anyone know if I was to purchase active pickups if they would work with my original pots and wiring (500k) I am changing up some of my guitars and I am considering active pickups in one of them ..

Yeah, what OneGun said, and you also need a stereo jack.
I was a Bill Lawrence man for years and just recently saw the light.
I really like the smooth upper mids they produce and the sustain, but the pinch harmonics do not come out as good as they do with the XL500 for some reason. There's a store in Monroeville somewhere that sells brand new EMG's for $63.00 + TX. That's super cheap. I can ask my buddy for the # if you are interested.

I'm trying to get a hold of him, but he must be busy with something.
I'm thinking the store is called Mc Arelli's not sure on the spelling though.
I'll keep trying and I'll post the name of the store and the # for anyone else interested.
My friend Paul bought an EMG 81, and an EMG S for his RR1- Rhoads, and he said the price was $63.00 for each pickup.
I'll get back to you asap.

That is really cheap do you know if they install it? I might just go that route to I just want a 81 for the bridge right now but I am excited to change up my tones I have been using the same pickups for years 2 strats with yngwie hs3's another strat with a hot rails single coil and another guitar with a sreamin demon humbucker, I also have a peavey wolfgang , but I purchased a kramer striker for a great deal and its a decent guitar with a few upgrades it has those quad rails with a coil tap they are ok for the price of the guitar, but thats about it, do you know if a active emg 81 can be coil tapped??
An 81 can not be tapped. You need an 89 for that. The 89 is more in line with an 85. I have a friend that just swapped out an 89 for a Duncan JB. If you're interested let me know & I'll see if he still has it. It's not even a year old.

thanks for all the info guys its been really helpful , i just need to talk to people to figure out what the heck I am doing half the time, I just have to change my sound up and set some of my guitars up different, just getting board with the same setup all the time so actives will be a great change for me. heck after years of no guitars with a floyd or kahler that was a great change (LOL)
