Chris Benoit Dead ... WWE lost another one.

Post by f.sciarrillo »

Chris Benoit died today - Him, his wife and child were found dead in their home outside of Atlanta this morning .. Vince McMahon was on at the beginning of the raw tonight, practically in tears, saying that the story line was supposed to be about the demise of his Mr. McMahon character, instead they canceled the event tonight and are making it a three hour special on the Ravid Wolverine ...

Rip Chris - He was a great wrestler :(
Chris Benoit, family found dead
Written: June 25, 2007

STAMFORD, Conn., June 25, 2007 – World Wrestling Entertainment was informed today by authorities in Fayetteville County, Ga., that WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy, and his son were found dead in their home. Authorities are investigating, but no other details are available at this time.

Instead of its announced programming for tonight on USA Network, WWE will air a three-hour tribute to Chris Benoit.

Chris was beloved among his fellow Superstars, and was a favorite among WWE fans for his unbelievable athleticism and wrestling ability. He always took great pride in his performance, and always showed respect for the business he loved, for his peers and towards his fans. This is a terrible tragedy and an unbearable loss.

WWE extends its sincere condolences and prayers to the Benoit family and loved ones in this time of tragedy.

That's too bad. He was an entertaining wrestler.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.

Say what you will about Vince, but when one of his wrestlers dies, he doesn't hold anything back by paying tribute to them. The episode the night after Owen Hart's death will always be in my memory.

CYANOGENIC GLYCOSIDES- Most people have heard of cyanide at one time or another, but few ever realize that such a deadly compound can be very easily derived from innocuous appearing 'natural' sources. Basically, cyanide and cyanogenic glycosides are proof positive that although something is natural, it still can hurt you. This is a group of chemicals found naturally in about 2050 plant species. These are glycosides of plant origin that specifically affect the heart. The ingestion of these chemicals can lead to cyanide toxicity. Effects include abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, hypertension, tachycardia, tachypnea, respiratory distress, cherry-red blood, vomiting, bloody vomiting, lethargy, hallucinations, seizure, coma and death.

Police are investigating as a homicide... sounds to me like either Cyanide or Carbon Monoxide poisoning...

Benoit called into WWE last nite saying his family was ill and spitting up blood... why would he not get medical attention if you're spitting up blood...

What a terrible tragedy....from WWE.com

"Benoit's death part of a double murder-suicide
Written: June 25, 2007

According to lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, in Fayetteville, Ga., the deaths of WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and son Daniel were the result of a double murder-suicide, WWE.com has learned.

Benoit failed to appear both at Saturday’s live event in Beaumont, Tx., and WWE’s Vengeance: Night of Champions in Houston Sunday night, after informing WWE of a family emergency. Several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning prompted concerned friends to alert Richard Hering, VP of Government Relations for WWE, Inc. Hering, in turn, spoke with Fayette County sheriffs Monday, and requested that they respond to the Benoit residence to check on him and his family.

Authorities representing the Sheriff’s Department initially had a difficult time entering Benoit’s new Fayetteville home Monday afternoon, which had been guarded by two large German Shepherds roaming freely around the property. Once authorities entered the residence, they quickly located the bodies of Benoit, Nancy and Daniel. WWE was notified of the discovery at approximately 4 p.m.

At 10 p.m. Monday night, Lt. Pope held a press conference in conjunction with Scott Ballard, the district attorney for Fayette County. The press conference officially ruled authorities’ findings as a double murder-suicide from within the home.

WAGA, a FOX-owned and operated television station in Atlanta, reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son over the weekend, then himself on Monday.

The three bodies have been received by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab, in Decatur, Ga., where autopsies will be performed Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not become available for at least two weeks.

WWE.com has further information relating to both the investigation and the cause of death, but the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department has requested that WWE.com not release any additional details at this time."

They have updated it the story now... It was what you posted right after raw but this is what was up this morning :

WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and son were found dead Monday and police said they were investigating the deaths as a homicide.

Lt. Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department said the three were found at their home about 2:30 p.m., but refused to release details.

Pope said results of autopsies on Benoit, his wife Nancy, and 7-year-old son Daniel were expected Tuesday.

Benoit, 40, was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles over his career.

"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the federation said in a statement on its Web site.

Benoit was scheduled to perform at the "Vengeance" pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called "personal reasons."

Benoit, a Canadian native, maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling.

The WWE canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.

I dont know after watching Raw I cant see how he could have killed them and himself but then again do you really ever know anyone, I hope that he didnt kill them, for his family and friends....Raw was very hard to watch last night, he was loved and will be missed...

If it's true what they said about the double murder, then i take back what i said. If it's true i hope he does burn in hell. there is no need to hurt children, let alone inicent people. you want to kill yourself, well then do the world a favor, and quit wasting our oxygen. I did like Chris as a wrestler. but now i don't know. my image has been shattered.

It seems to speak to how much "non-food" items these guys ingest. Steroid abuse causes paranoia, hyperaggressive behavior, and other psychoses. HGH hasn't been studied that way, but if it's the same hormone that turns boys into men, there's an obvious correlation. Wrestlers also take massive amounts of painkillers, etc., and alcohol and hard drug abuse is pretty common. Couple that with a job that doesn't encourage violence, it requires it, and that's a recipe for bad, bad things.
I was a wrestling fan from childhood until about 10 years ago, when it seemed like the silliness I liked just got too silly. Too much soap opera and not enough wrestling.
Anyway, my heart goes out to the families.-------->JMS

I read that they are now looking into the possibility of steroid use playing into this tragedy.

You really never know these people and what they may be like outside of the spotlight. Even given that pro wrestling is staged, these performers have to be wired differently from the rest of us to be able to do some of the daredevil stuff that they do. Add steroids and other performance enhancements into the mix, who knows what kinds of Frankensteins are being created.

I haven't followed pro-wrestling closely for at least five years, ever since the modern WWE era kicked in. If I channel surf past it I'll watch it, but I miss the days of Macho Man, Hulk (at his prime), Sgt. Slaughter and my all-time favorite, the Ultimate Warrior...

Its been a while since I followed wrestling. I'll agree that I watch it every now and then but not like I used to. This is a huge shock to me because Chris (The Canadian Crippler) Benoit has been my favorite wrestler since his days in ECW to WCW to WWE. This is shocking because about 9 years ago I had the priveledge to meet Chris Benoit at The Bryce Jordan Center and he was probably the most sociable one there with his fans. I will never forget that meeting.........He will be sadly missed..

released by the AP roughly 6:00 Tuesday 6/26/07

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. - Pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife, suffocated his 7-year-old son and placed a Bible next to their bodies before hanging himself with a weight-machine pulley, authorities said Tuesday.

Investigators found anabolic steroids in the house and want to know whether the muscle man nicknamed “The Canadian Crippler” was unhinged by the bodybuilding drugs, which can cause paranoia, depression and explosive outbursts known as “roid rage.”

Authorities offered no motive for the killings, which were spread out over a weekend, and would not discuss Benoit’s state of mind. No suicide note was found.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“I’m baffled about why anybody would kill a 7-year-old,” District Attorney Scott Ballard said. “I don’t think we’ll ever be able wrap our head around that.”

The Montreal-born Benoit was one of the stars of the WWE wrestling circuit and was known for his wholesome family-man image. His wife, Nancy, was a wrestling stage manager who worked under the name “Woman.” They married in 2000.

When he won the world heavyweight championship in 2004, Benoit (pronounced ben-WAH) hoisted the belt over his head and invited his wife and child into the ring to celebrate. Asked by the Calgary Sun that same year to name his worst vice: Benoit replied: “Quality time with my family is a big vice. It’s something I’ll fight for and crave.”

Nevertheless, Nancy Benoit filed for a divorce in 2003, saying the couple’s three-year marriage was irrevocably broken and alleging “cruel treatment.” She later dropped the complaint, as well as a request for a restraining order in which she charged that the 5-foot-10, 220-pound Benoit had threatened her and had broken furniture in their home.

In the divorce filing, she said Benoit made more than $500,000 a year as a professional wrestler and asked for permanent custody of Daniel and child support. In his response, Benoit sought joint custody.

The bodies were found Monday afternoon in the house, situated off a gravel road in this suburb about 20 miles south of Atlanta.

Benoit’s 43-year-old wife was killed Friday in an upstairs family room, her feet and wrists were bound and there was blood under her head, indicating a possible struggle, Ballard said. Daniel was probably killed late Saturday or early Sunday, the body found in his bed, the district attorney said.

Benoit, 40, apparently hanged himself several hours and as long as a day later, Ballard said. His body was found in a downstairs weight room, his body found hanging from the pulley of a piece of exercise equipment.

Chris Benoit, Curt Hennig, the British Bulldog, Bam Bam Bigelow, Eddie Guerrero, etc., etc., etc., etc. ... My question is, when are the powers that be going to start investigating "Mr. McMahon," his empire and the way they do business?

As was previously stated, the WWE is a Frankenstein factory. All the 'roid focus is on people like Barry Bonds but they never speak of the "Superstars" of modern wrestling, most of whom are so unnaturally huge that there's no question what they're up to.

This time, an innocent little boy was the victim. I think I just puked a little. These people do not deserve to be idolized. It's sick and Vince is laughing all the way to the bank. Disgusting.

That's a pretty negative outlook on things. I don't agree that the entire human race is sick, but I've always been of the mindset that some people are either born screwed up in the head or "blow a fuse" at some point in their lives due to faulty wiring (Jack the Ripper, Dahmer, Bundy, etc.). We all know those people who act certain ways or do certain things that just don't make sense and no matter how hard you try to figure out why, you just can't. It's because their brains are effed up.

IMHO, these people need to be identified and filtered out of society so the rest of humanity can live peaceful, productive lives.

The "blow a fuse" thing is exactly what I'm talking about.
Seemingly ok for thirty years, then BAM, they're skinning out their wife to make raincoat and making sculptures out of their own feces. How do you see this coming? I may have a negative outlook on it, but I'd also bet everything I've got on this type of behavior going on for longer than I live.
