Hurricane Felix is coming!

Post by Why not Pluto? »

Hey everyone, I don't know if anyone posted this yet (been real busy) but I saw it on the weather channel while flipping through. If we get 6 Hurricanes this year the 6th hurricane will be named Hurricane Felix.

It's about time!

LOL!

When we released our Travelers not Forgotten cd at Peter C's there was a Hurricane Felix coming up the coast. It got pretty windy/rainy that night as i remember. Was a funny coincidence though.

According to Wikipedia:

The name Felix has been used for three tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean.

• 1989's Hurricane Felix: Died in the Atlantic without threatening land.
• 1995's Hurricane Felix: Category 4 storm that passed near enough to Bermuda to delay its independence referendum; caused high surf that drowned eight on the New Jersey and North Carolina coasts.
• 2001's Hurricane Felix: Formed as a depression near Cape Verde, degenerated, reformed, reached Category 3 but never threatened land.

That's what she said.

I was in Ocean City, MD for the '95 Felix. I decided, for some reason, that I would make my first attempt at bodysurfing... hey, there were 15-year-olds doing it, and I'm way stronger than most 15-year-olds. I actually did pretty well for about a half-hour, got a little bruised up, but it was indeed lots of fun. I remember looking in towards the shoreline, and the kids were all looking behind me, and UP. I turned around to stare incredulously at what appeared to be an 18-wheeler made of water coming at me sideways. No kidding, the 6-foot waves had gotten together and made a 15-foot wave. There was a deep breath, followed by 20 seconds of underwater ass-kicking where I couldn't tell which way was up, and I'm at least reasonably sure I kneed myself in the forehead. Then suddenly, I'm 20 feet onshore, looking up at a little kid, with about 4 pounds of sand in my trunks... so much that when I stood upright, my swimsuit only made half the trip. I had to run back into the very water that had just whipped my fat ass. People pointed and laughed. Had I not been already horribly sunburnt, they'd have seen me turn bright red in embarrassment. The next day, I had those deep, purply-green bruises you only get in domestic abuse and car accidents.
Felix and the Hurricanes: highly entertaining and underrated. Hurricane Felix: not so much.--------->JMS

I remember the '95 Felix. It was a massive storm that everybody was sweating. Fortunately it never hit land. That summer the 'Canes had a steady gig at the G-Man when it was still nice. Matt and I used to go see them every week. I was actually worried that this hurricane would hit land and cause devistation, then everyone outside the area would associate Felix and Hurricanes with death and destruction. Luckily none of that ever happened. Seems kind of silly looking back on it, but Its true.
