I don't like the flavor of spoon fed BS.

Post by Danette »

Anyone who knows me KNOWS that I am normally pretty easy going, keep to myself , and my mouth shut (for the most part) to avoid confrontation. Lately though, I have grown VERY weary of people mistaking my politeness/kindness for weakness or ignorance. I am a curious person by nature and prone to asking "why" an awful lot. Please also be aware that I am definaltely NOT trying to incite any more flame wars. I have just been trying to gain an understanding that has not been dealt with honestly. I also know that airying dirty laundry is pretty much frowned upon but since the confussion continues, even when asked in a face to face environment, I didnt see much of an option.

With that said ... If anyone knows that working with Claud can sometimes be a challange ... I do! 15 yrs and counting! I love/ respect the guy dearly, but I dont always "get" him or his motives. Anywho - why not just be forthright when asked about the following comments? I have seen / dealt with/worked along side of some of the best and worst issues the local "scene" (owners, bands, customers, plcb trends, etc) has had to weather but feel with every fibre of my being the following comments were uncalled for.

and from the same "gentleman" ..

EDITED OUT BAND DUDES NAME wrote:That was a good show. You guys really seem to be breaking through in Altoona. If you can get 100+ people to come out to Shitty Limits your doing good. From what i can tell it wasnt everyones relatives either LOL. Keep up the good work.
I guess what I am trying to understand is if someone is man/woman enough to flex their keyboard muscles and post comments in a public forum for everyone to see why deny they even exsist when attempting to understand the motive/ meaning to the commenters face ???

If anyone wants to discuss this in person you can find me behind either the main bar or the side bar @ "Shitty Limits" this weekend.

Thanks for your time & happy Fathers Day to all you RP dads ( and moms having to be both).

**Not only have I saved the pages these comments came from in their entirety, I also printed them the first time the subject was brought up ( last month) to avoid any possible creative editing.

At the risk of getting involved with arguments I have no business to, I can point these things out.

1) Club DJ's will never get love on this forum. This must never change. If that offends Claudio, I apologize, but I am a musician.

2) No matter cool a job is, people will always find something to complain about. Musicians are not immune to that. We bitch about stuff, same as everybody else. You've posted regarding inconsiderate patrons, etc. in the past, and you have a right to, since inconsiderate patrons certainly do exist.
You have several courses of action... either ignore the negativity, eliminate the complainer, or address the complaint. I've known Claudio for 20+ years... heck, I lived in his attic for 2 years... I'm sure he doesn't care what one guy on Rockpage thinks.--------->JMS

Spoonfed BS tastes pretty crappy... Jello shots are MUCH better! :D Sorry, that was a miserable attempt at some levity.

I relate so well with some of what you wrote in the first part of your post, that it IS funny, especially the people mistaking kindness for weakness part. :)

If you attempted to resolve the issue (Wanting to understand exactly why someone said/wrote something negative toward City Limits.) even beyond PMs, in person no less, I believe you have every right to defend your place of employment by responding to those posts on the message board they were left on.

Ya know, I always found it amusing that Peter Cs had a bad rep for fights, because I never saw one there. (I witnessed and once got a first hand account of  headbanging...that was about it.) I have witnessed fights at several live Music venues over the years, and yes City Limits was one, but the bouncer quickly broke it up. There has been worse at other places...one nut even said he was going to bring a gun back and kill everyone in the place...and all are in different sections of town. What is my point? That it is clearly not the fault of the DJ or the venue...stuff happens, and I am not afraid. Of course, that is only my opinion and feelings on the issue, I could be wrong.

Yes, Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads, and Dani, thanks for the Fathers Day wishes. :) I suppose I am having to be both...I never thought about it like that. Due to his not being involved in their lives, I used to call myself The Lone Parent even when I was still married to their Father, but never considered that by doing the things with them Dads normally do, I was essentially taking his place... At times I greatly doubt whether I am doing a very good job, but I suppose only time will tell if I have served them well.

I know that the second comment was posted in a thread about a show that we played at City Limits last summer. It wasn't posted by any members of Bad Daze and is NOT reflective of any of our attitudes. Of couse, I can't control what everyone posts, even in our own threads. Danette, I know that you realize that, but I just wanted to make sure that there weren't any misconceptions just in case anyone decided to do some research. ;)

...and while we're on the subject of City Limits...

What pisses you off, that a musician doesn't like a DJ or that he predicted the future?

I don't blame Claudio for having entertainment that works, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

I agree this quote is uncalled for. You can have my apology for it, but I know thats not what you want.

Maybe you should try actually explaining to the "gentleman" what the hell you are talking about, instead of vaguely mentioning something that was said 9 months ago in an internet forum.

I and EDITED OUT BAND DUDES NAME both enjoy playing at City Limits, and we have been there many times when not playing.

I understand that the comments have upset you, but it seems like you could have handled this a lot more reasonably, I don't know if you noticed, but EDITED OUT BAND DUDES NAME hasn't even posted here in over 6 months, and I know the last thing he is thinking about is Rockpage.

If you want to talk to me about this my contact information is open to you, and I can get you in touch with EDITED OUT BAND DUDES NAME if you are so inclined.
Stand back, I like to rock out.

Yeah, no $hit, who doesn't buck heads with affiliates from time to time? He's thrown me out of there at the end of the night (recently) and then it's good friends and business as usual the following Monday.

Bottom line where Claudio and City Limits are concerned — he's always paid us what we've earned and it's a great venue that will pay off if you stay patient and work it.

I do agree, though, DJs = trouble and sometimes guns/knives, but what can you do? They're cheap and they'll always be cheap. Also, there will always be a$$holes out there who can't go out without starting $hit, especially when they add alcohol. The atmosphere DJs create is, by and large, condusive to this sort of violence.

Fortunately, there are club owners out there like Claudio who support live music (and Claudio has been supporting shmucks like us for years and years and years and years ... and years).

You know, a lot of people bitch about Claudio. Too bad, he's a business man giving you an opportunity to play at his place. You don't bring people, you don't get paid. You can't expect people just to show up, you have to get the word out about your band. He'll give anyone a chance too, so you can't knock him for that.

Claudio gave me a free beer Saturday night "for old time sake." Anyone who gives Bag a free beer is ok in my book. :D
