is this wrong?

Post by ZappasXWife »

I just have to get this out....I know that some of you, hell maybe most of us, do not like a closed-minded attitude toward certain genres of music as we have witnessed on this board before. I try to give most genres a chance and can appreciate and enjoy music I never thought I would. HOWEVER, the kids in my kitchen today are listening to the biggest load of crap I have ever heard, and it is making me irritated. Station 94.5...I think called the Beaver here is SCollege. WTF? I have not heard a guitar in this crap ALL DAY. Rhythm and Blues? BLUES? Not the blues I know. I HATE this music (music?). Can I bash this whole genre? Am I offending anyone? No disrespect intended....(couldn't resist that  )
I guess this is the same stuff WPRR plays but I don't know as I avoid that.
Any thoughts? Do any of you seriously like this or is it just me?
How long has this been going on, and how long do you think it will last?
If music be the food of love, then play on...

I think if you genuinely can't stand something that's not being closed-minded at all. That's stating your opinion. Now if you hated it because of racial/religious stereotypes then yes, it would be closed-minded.
If you don't state your opinion because you don't want to offend anyone that's fine too, I'm sure lots of people do that.

With that being said that Rkelly, Beyonce bullshit is ridiculous.
Manufactured crap aimed at pre teens and bar sluts who say "this is my song", Get the fuck outta here with that superficial shit.

Don't get me wrong I like me some rap like Dr. Dre, Atmosphere, Method Man,etc. But that bubblegumboybandbrittneybullshit is horrible.

Some music doesnt do for me either. I dont think theres one Hip Hop song or R&B song i actually like. It all sounds the same. Computer generated beats with some dude or chick screamin "Yeeaah" over and over.

But i listen to everything. I jam out to Slipknot and Blind Melon in the same breath.

I'm with DirtySanchez, Dr. Dre is the only rap I can listen to. His album "The Chronic" is a great rap album.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.

Ha Ha.......

I remember my dad's reaction when I brought home Inagaddadavida. (vinyl) "How in hell can you call that music ? ! "

I also remember his reaction to Sargent Pepper. (vinyl)

And he was a musician too.

Sometimes music just goes off in a direction that we don't get.

You can be open minded, and still NOT like something. (Whether it's music or politics lol).

Not to me... but Im sure someone will prob take offense.

Its the great thing about music, it can mean so many different things to so many different ppl. To me it means "I'd rather lick my own asshole than listen to this crap"; but hey... whatever makes the world go round.

Im sure ppl into this genre dont much care for Morbid Angel...

Im glad I dont like it. I would look pretty fuckin dumb in a pair of doc martins, white spandex pants, a wife beater, cornrows, a white NFL team hat, and a gold dollar sign pennant and chain around my neck. Some guys can pull that look off... I personally guarantee not me.

ZXW, I can relate. The kind of Music you mention I can only listen to in great moderation. Some of
it makes me want to jump right out of a window! (Just like many Polkas.) My children like a lot of really GOOD Music, so when they want to listen to that and I'm within ear-shot, or when the radio was working in my bi-polar car and they tried to play that while I was driving - I let 'em know homey REALLY don't play dat!

What's one thing you'll never hear from a polka band?

"Ok, we're gonna slow it down a little bit"

Any style of music thats inspired by beer and kielbasa is allright in my book! Except for the big hair polka genre...never really cared for that.

Imo, Polka - actually no Genre of Music, is "gay", unless one means "happy". Some of those tunes just aren't my bag, man. 8) Part of my ethnic heritage is Slovak, hence waaaay too much exposure to the dreaded Polka. My mom watches a Polka show that's on her local PBS station every Saturday night. That's one of the activities in my concept of hell. I don't know the difference between the types of Polka (I believe a Chardosh is one type.), and don't ever want to. She likes a lot of really good Music too, such as all the pioneers of Country, so it ain't all bad.

Baceman, Beer and Kielbasa, now you're talking! I grew up with Kielbasa being pretty much a delicacy that was only served on Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving. Now, whenever we're hungry for "bossy" (My oldest boy used to call it that.), I make it for dinner.

If anyone would like to truly appreciate exactly how Trees grow, I suggest reading "The Secret Life of Plants".

Being that you're bandmates, as well as "elbow deep", I suppose it makes sense that you'd know what Baceman likes to eat and about Gay Music Associations.

Thanks Don,
I get bored at work, and it's these little things that keep me from a mass murder/suicide during the longest days.

Plus it's been kinda stale here since Keith got the boot.

You know, it's not that the music is the worst...it's just when they play the same songs over and over and over and over and over....I've heard the same song at a place I used to work like 12 times on an 8 hour shift....that's the worst.
