Drillers Bar/Kay Arena in Indiana has closed
Drillers Bar/Kay Arena in Indiana has closed
Heard the news last night and confirmed it today on their website. No further info available. Kind of surprising with Indiana being a college town that there are almost no clubs that have bands on a regular basis. The Coney has bands on occasion (I think Hi Tyde played there recently) but most just book DJs. Outside of the downtown area The Rose Inn has cut back their schedule and the Rayne Drop Inn is wrapping up their band schedule until fall. The Valley Inn closed their doors a year or two ago and Harrigans in the Holiday Inn quit booking bands a few years ago as well. Guess we should be thankful for the clubs that continue to have live entertainment. The list keeps getting shorter.

We used to play in and around Indiana quite often at several places but we have not played in that area since last September because of all the closings. Winner's Lounge outside of Indiana stopped having bands in December due to the ASCAP & BMI fine issue. I know that H. B. Culpepper's had a similar problem.

Rob - Harrigan's is doing some bookings again in Indiana also Boomerang's has bands, but the owner is the BIGGEST PIECE OF SHIT PUNK I've ever met. He still owes Lost Ledny $888.00. I'm not sure Driller's is closing for good or just for a month or so. The arena part is up for sale and word has it that UPS is buying that and making it their warehouse for Indiana County. The bar was to remain open, but I heard all this about three weeks ago. The arena wasn't amounting to anything financially, but the bar was always packed.

If anyone read yesterday's Indiana Gazette, then you already know what I'm talking about: Yesterday on the front page was the announcement about the closing. Also, turns out that over the weekend The Povertyneck Hillbillies played. Kay Arena was selling tickets for $20 (yes rather steep if you ask me) and they announced that almost 2000 tickets were sold...WRONG...the arena didn't even hit the 600 people mark and Kay Arena DID NOT pay the band...they stiffed the band! So, from what the paper said, that was the straw that broke the camels back...kinda shady if you as me.

For the record, this was all outta Bubba's hands. The owners insisted on country acts the entire month of April for their "anniversary celebration" and I'm sorry, but there are few local or regional acts — let alone country acts — that I'd pay $20 to see.
Big time suck job.
