I have an announcement.

Post by RobTheDrummer »

I'll be moving back to PA next week. I've lived out here in Reno for just over a year. I've had many great times and have been successful in this communtiy of music. I've just come to the point where I don't want to do this casino circuit anymore. I miss my family, I miss all of my great friends from home. One of the biggest reasons...drumming became a job rather than a passion. When I used to play back home, it was always fun, no matter what the situation was. When you play the same songs every night, over and over, it becomes a drag.

I had a lot of fun when I recently came home for a visit. The drum night, seeing friends there. The rock for the troops show. Jamming with the 'Canes. I miss it. I miss the people, it's different out here. Tourists, the circuit, the bands. Totally different world from the east. So, weighing my options, I decided that I wanna come back home and see what I can get myself into. More importantly, I just want to have fun playing and being with family and friends.

Thanks everyone for keeping me close to home for over a year and for supporting me from the time I took off. I'll be seeing you all soon!

Cool, man! missed you, bro!

This is weird because I was just getting ready to make my own announcement: I've taken up the drums and have accepted a gig with a band in Reno, playing the casino circuit.

It is probably because those Reno 911 cops started wearing pink shorts.

Hey Rob, call my cynical, but for some reason I knew when you went out to Reno, you would be back. You just get jaded too easily. ;) On a serious note, it will be great to have you back. At least you went out, actually did it, and then decided that it wasn't for you. I bet your chops and overall musicality have increased 10x (I noticed that you had become very tasteful with your fills when we jammed at Burgi's last August), so it's awesome that we're getting seasoned muso in the area.

Hey Rob,

Glad to hear you're coming back home.

I have played and worked all over the world. Everywhere I went, I found myself comparing it to home, and yearning to come back.

Any musician who has not been out playing full time on the road for a living just can't grasp the idea. What??? You get to play every day?? and you get paid (pretty well) for it?? Are you nuts??

What they don't understand is

(1) You usualy play 5 or 6 hours each night.
(2) You usually end up playing most of your song list every night.
(3) It's really difficult to keep any kind of EnERGy for 5 or 6 hours.
(4) You must play for chairs many times.
(5) Your band is just a diversion for patrons.
(6) When you are finished for the night, usually around 3:30-4:00AM you might sit around a have a few with your bandmates or a couple of fans, but then you go back to your room and try to watch TV, can't get to sleep till 9:00AM then get up around 4:00PM. Go get something to eat. Come back to the room. Watch some more TV until it's time to do it again - 7 nights a week. You can't go to your nephew's ball game, or go fishing with friends, or go shoot the shit with your friends or family, cause they are 2000 miles away. This is definitely a JOB, and this JOB SUCKS!!

Despite all of it's shortcomings, our little piece of Mother Earth is like no other. We all get bitchy about the music scene here in PA, but let me tell ya - it's better than most.

In my opinion, there really is "no place like home".
