What year was RockPage started?

Post by metalchurch »

Where did the idea come from? How much has changed over the years, and did this turn out to meet expectations? Just wondering, I don't know much about the origins of this.

I think that this format started around '02 or something like that. Before that, it was almost like a guestbook format. I'm sure the Ron or JP could give a detailed history of the site.

Rockpage began in 2002, the brainchild of "Rockpage Ron", Ron Nearhoof, our esteemed moderator. There are quite a few of us who have been here since the beginning, and it's become a daily part of our lives to network with bands, talk to fellow musicians, and generally act silly. I don't know that Ron ever expected this many people to join, but it's become THE staple for music websites in PA.

The most senior members by join date are Ron, Jim Price, PanzerFaust, Hurricane, BadDazeRob, Flight19, JohnTrain, Witchhunt, songsmith, Scott Russell, Mackovyak, banditos, TJ Kelly, all of whom are still regular contributors and joined on Dec. 9, 2002. I got here late, Dec. 17, 2002.

You are right Bobby . Rockpage started in the mid/ late 90's when it wasn't much more than a guestbook, the Cafe Press / Rockpage swag page and the New Sabs monthly bands schedule. There was no registration to join, no band pages, no avatars and a weeks worth of postings would # as many postings as a single average days thread now. Praise to Ron for my first lessons ( and all my dumb questions) in HTML so I could add color to the Sabs schedule. lol

whos the guy on the left?
I think I might know the answer to that. But I'm trying to recall how he got the bandaid on his thumb...

I remember the old guestbook days. "JP's Corner" arose out of my posting the recap of who I saw onstage each weekend; usually a few lines for each show. Ron then gave me my own area to post the recaps, and soon afterward, the capability to post photos. It's been a downward spiral ever since...

Props to Ron for creating such a wonderful tool. Even when the signal to noise ratio leans to the noise side, this site does so much for the local music scene and local musicians

I started frequenting Rockpage about 2000-ish. That's when it was the "guestbook format." I remember putting up obnoxious, monster truck-like show posts on that thing ... LOL

SATURDAY, SATURDAY, SATURDAY!!! Come experience the insanity ... blah, blah, blah ...

It was cool because there was already a JP's Corner and I still have some print outs of reviews JP did on my old project (thanks, BTW, for the extreme generosity of your words back then, JP).

All in all, Rockpage is a great place to unwind, vent, bitch, moan, inquire, collaborate, network, brainstorm ... it meets so many needs and I'm proud to be a part of it. Thanks Ron ... please don't be ashamed as we all take turns kissing you on your ass for a little while ...

Yeah, you're right, Bobby, I used to be #4, now I'm #5 ... I signed up the first day it went up, too ... WTF?!?

Oh, and yeah, bring Bubba back ...

:D

Perhaps as a "forum" it began in 2002, but it has been around since long before that.

Ron used to do websites for local bands and clubs and had them all tied into rockpage. He was doing that stuff back in the mid nineties when he and I were students at Penn State Altoona.

Rockpage is a great site and offers so much to musicans, club owners, and the general public about the regional music scene and much more.

I use Rockpage frequently since I signed up several years ago. Not only is it a good promotional method for my band; but, the forums and other information shared on the site are very useful and entertaining.

Kudos to Ron for starting and maintaining Rockpage and to J. P. for all his work as well and anybody else who is involved with keeping the site going for all of us to use.

I appreciate all the work that goes into creating such a professionally done website.

I thank you all very much.
