Don’t drink the Kool-Aid

Post by Killjingle »

By now, "Don’t drink the Kool-Aid" is a well-known admonishment not to buy into collective wisdom. It derives from the 1978 Jonestown massacre, when 914 followers of Jim Jones [wiki], included 276 children, committed suicide. But here’s the thing: No one at Jonestown drank Kool-Aid [wiki]. They drank cyanide-laced grape Flavor Aid, a Kool-Aid competitor - but the poor, innocent Kool-Aid man has been taking the fall ever since.

Such is the downfall of having a product so pervasive that its brand name becomes the all-encompassing name of the actual item (e.g., a cotton swab is universally known as a Cue Tip, despite the actual brand name).

I suppose that if I were drinking my very last drink, I'd want the real deal, not some generic imitation. Then again, if one were slitting their wrists, I doubt that they'd be worried if they were using a Ginsu or some cheap knife from Walmart.

The first time I saw a black person was 2 years ago, I got a little worried because he looked different than everyone else.

Yeah, one that has always bothered me is when people refer to the sport/activity of playing foot-bag, they call it playing Hackey-sack. Hackey-sack is a brand of foot-bag, not the name of the activity. That would be like calling playing soccer, playing Wilson.

They could call it a bull testicle and it would still be lame. Id rather go play Wilson.

Kool-Aid rocks! But apparently it takes a bit of skill to get the mix just right. It has to do with the exact ratio of packet mix to sugar portion to water quantity & then there's the ice cube x-factor. Oh, don't forget to consider the size of your mixing container as an influential agent in this process. But whatever brand it happens to be that you're using - it's all "bug juice" in the end. Damn, now I'm thirsty.

That welfare statement is hilarious lol .. Also, the way I understand it; it was cyanide laced grape flavored kool-aid that was shoved down the throats of kids and the like. They were murdered, there was no suicide. Jim Jones was killed execution style by one of his followers.

They just recently had a thing on television about it. It showed the total lack of mental stability by the man they all followed. He was a psychologists dream ...

Yeah, I can think of a certain "church" followed by a lot of celebrities with the same cult-like doctrines and beliefs. Damn it, Frank; don't get me on my Scientology rant here. :D

Fake Healer's a bad ass tune. Wow, it's been a while since I've listened to any Metal Church. They walked that fine line between power metal and thrash metal very well.

Too bad David Wayne died, a few years ago. I think They are still going with a new singer. I really like their self titled debut. And the In the Dark album. They're not the greatest band, but it sounded cool for a screen name so I used it.
