Need help with midi module ?

Post by P MAC »

Anyone have a configurable midi controller and some expertise with accessing sytem exclusive parameters of a midi sound module? I need to create a couple of custom preset bass patches in a Peavey Spectrum Bass module. Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated? I am willing to pay for your time and etc.

Hey P MAC,

Jeff Renner (Lonewolf) is on Rockpage, and he's the resident MIDI genius. You might wanna PM him, or just hang loose until he sees your post. Jeff knows stuff about MIDI that the MIDI people haven't invented yet.

The best way to go would be to find a PC based patch editor program and connect the module to the PC thru MIDI. These programs give you knobs & sliders on the screen for the parameters that you can adjust in real time.

EDIT: Here is a link to a Peavey Spectrum Bass Editor/Librarian:

Here is a link to Peavey synth related software:

I wouldn't want to tweak a sound module using Sysex commands...that would be very tedious. Sysex is generally used inside the patch editor programs or to change a sound real time in a MIDI sequence.

Lonewolf;
Thanks for your reply, but its way TMI for me. I am a midi illiterate acoustic guitar player that has gotten sucked into the world of midi only because I play bass pedals. What I really need is someone to help me edit 2 or 3 patches on the Spectrum Bass Module to be saved for use with my bass pedals. Once this is accomplished, it is unlikely I would ever need or want to get that deep into the unit again.

What exactly do you need to edit (be specific)? After looking at the editor screen, there are not very many parameters that can be edited on this module anyway. It should work with a sequencer or a sysex programming tool--if you already know the values that you want to tweak.

If you don't know the parameter values up front and want to try to tweak it by ear one parameter value at a time, that is simply too tedious a process without an editor or a compatible midi controller like a Peavey PC1600.

Another important question: Does this module have a "SAVE" function? If it doesn't, the changes will probably go away the 1st time you turn it off.
