HEY YO, Razor Ramone speakin' at ya...I just flinged my toothpick at you - just kidding. I've got my mind on my money & my money on my mind. I must have a very small mind then, huh. Cause I definitely don't make enough to be "laid back" or even "set up" for that matter. Hell, I can't even afford the frickin' gin & juice! Guess I'll have to settle for a case of cheap beer like always. I'm happy wit it though, got no choice. I'll accept what I have & be thankful for it. Peace out.
I gave you my heart. Whatever God gave me.

Child support: The way it should work.

The government needs to come up with a "standard, universal amount" that constitutes what it actually "costs" to raise one child for a week. For the sake of this illustration, let's say it costs $100 per week per child.

Make that amount standard for EVERYONE. The ex gets that amount ($100 for one, $200 for two, etc.) each week or pay period, whatever.

Now, retain the income guidelines system they have now, but take the money that rises above the $100 per child per week figure and slam it in a trust that NO ONE BUT THE CHILD can touch. This money gets released TO THE CHILD on the 18th birthday, no sooner.

Could you imagine the college fund this would build for these kids over the years?

This system would force the custodial parent to ƒü©king work for a living instead of asking for a "raise" whenever they see that new dress or car or boat they want.

I "pay" support (actually, of course it's removed from my check before I have the chance to pay it like the rest of my bills) and I don't begrudge my kids the support I'm ordered to pay, but it makes me want to throw up knowing that the ex alone (well, her and my ex-guitar player — her husband — what a stand up guy :? ) determines what that money is used for. Also, it makes me hella sick, knowing that if the ex's rent goes up, I'm liable to get dragged back in to domestic relations for another round. I don't like to ask for raises at work anymore because at least I know if my income doesn't rise, neither will my "support."

My support doesn't get adjusted down if our light bill goes up or if our car breaks down. We just have to deal with it.

On the flip side, I have two (older) kids from a previous "situation," both of whom I've had full custody of since they were 8 and 3 (they're 21 and 15 now). Their "mother" is a full fledged heroin addict from way back. I tried in vain for years and years to get support from this bitch but all she ever had to do was submit a simple and periodic "doctor's note" from the friendly neighborhood rehab center and she's exempt from paying ANYTHING. After several years of trying to collect, DR finally just closed the case, told me her "condition" was such that they couldn't do anything in the way of enforcement, and that the THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of dollars in arrearages the kids were owed were just going to be "wiped off the books." Too bad, so sad.

Reverse the roles though and my ass would be sitting in jail right now, heroin addiction or not, and everyone here knows that's the way it is.

... and the popular term is "deadbeat dads." :x :x :x :x :x :x

The system is totally and completely ƒü©ked.

AGREED!!! ROB FOR PRESIDENT......Or even DR officer!!!

I know what your saying...They attack the "working guy".... Like I said, I was dragged up for $250 and my neighbor...Sheeez!!!....This guy goes up like every 3 years..his kids are 22 and 18....he is SO far behind...He has no job, no license (DUI), no electricity, no indoor toliet, they bring him in, threatin jail and he drops them 50 bucks (that friends feeling bad give him) and he walks out laughing... He sittin on the back porch everynight when I get home with his friends, (Who get SSI because they are confirmed alcoholics) and it looks like a plane crashed in his yard from beer cans...He gets access card (which he buys some supplies to make wine), fuel assistance, ect. But he always finds away to get to the leigon and VFW everyday to sign the book so he could hit it and live like a king for a month... My friend did his taxes one year and told him he needs to write a book on how you live on 1200 bucks a year! Your right Rob! The system is F@#$ed Up!! Why even try to have a good job....makes ya want to take the cheapest work you can find and hook up with a girl that gets good support...LOL Thats what they are teaching us!!!

I'm actually going to court on Thursday to petition for a temporary suspension of my child support. My ex is being very cool about it, so it shouldn't be a problem.

There are lots and lots of deadbeat mothers out there as well. I was a single father, as well 5 of my friends, who all raised our kids and loved every minute of it. Not one of those 6 mothers ever paid one penny in child support even though they all worked and were living with other guys. I even was awarded custody of my stepson (from my ex's first marriage) and she never paid support for him or the kids we had together.

God bless all of you divorced/seperated guys who have taken care of your children, despite whatever legal battles you had to face. It seems that society always takes the woman's side in these types of battles and the fathers are always stereotyped as being the bad guys. I personally think that the system is total bullshit, and it needs an update for the 21st Century.

I'm not trying to be a misogynist or downplay single mothers - because what they do is great too - but as evidenced by many of the replies in this thread, the guy often gets the shitty end of the stick.

Again I'm going to commend every dad her who are stepping up to be a part of their kids lives in one way or another. I will say don't slam all us single moms. Not all of us are gold digging bitches out for blood. My last court hearing went in his favor not mine. He called up out of the blue wanting a hearing to request a reduction to his payments. (granted he wasn't paying crap to begin with) His excuse? He fathered another kid and he couldn't afford to support both. He wanted them to drop his payments down to $50 a month. He got his reduction (although not to that amount) and hasn't paid a dime since. I offered him the easy way out when he decided to walk out of her life when she was small. Pay me what you owe in back support and sign off. He refused. In his mind he's punishing me because I refused to marry him. In reality the only one he's hurt is his daughter.
The person below me enjoys a good spanking.

I think it's criminal how some people use their kids as pawns in their sad, pathetic games. Perhaps my greatest regret in life is that my wife and I are unable to have children (and I would've made for a pretty good daddy), and it pains me to know that some use kids as weapons. That only proves to me that those people are shallow and self-centered mental children themselves, hurting their own just to hurt someone else.
Here's to the parents who love their kids and sacrifice to make their lives better. You're the salt of the earth, and I envy and salute you.----->JMS
