$4,500 per show ... before taxes.

As an unwritten rule, you probably won't get a straight answer to this question. It's kind of like asking a co-worker at the office to see his or her pay stub.

According to the IRS, musicians typically lose $3000 per year.

I'm curently playing for a oldies weekend band and the leader usually pays me about 80 bucks a night. He provides the transportation and handles all the crap.

Wow! It's ironic for me that this topic came up like this because my "X" wife (peach of a woman if anyone is looking) recently took me back to domestic relations for more $$$ because she claimed I had an extra income by playing in a band! I argued that we don't even make enough to claim it at the end of the year as income, when you consider vehicle, gear expenses, etc... Her lawyer then proceeded to bust my balls about wanting receipts and documentation from venues on how much we were getting paid...

After about 5 minutes or more of his rambling about me putting the screws to my loving and caring ex-wife (did I mention what a peach she's been through this whole heart wrenching ordeal? Seriously guys.... I'd be willing to hook anyone up if you're looking) The case worker from DR looks at them and says "Look, I'm not sure what you two are expecting to get out of him for playing in a band, but having been a musician, playing in bands throughout the area for more than 20 years, I can assure you that he is not making squat. And as far as receipts and paperwork go, good luck getting that from every place in the area that books a band!"

I can tell you that I wanted to throw up the horns, thrust my arm back and forth and scream "you rock!" but I chose to raise an eyebrow and look smuggly across the table  It's nice to have someone stick up for you from time to time!

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for child support and such, gotta take care of the kids, but she was simply trying to make life even more hellish with this move so be careful about what information you want to share in an open forum.

And for any ladies out there that think I'm just another guy trying to hold out what the "X" deserves... PM me, you'll wish that you took your guy through Cambria County!!

sixstring: really depends on the band, their popularity, drawing power, etc. Band A might not make the same as Band B. And how the money is divided at the end of the night depends on alot of variables (food and drink, road crew, sound man, band expenses).

GuitarII: That's pretty sad man. At least you are trying to do right by your kids.

Wow GUITARII...you were really lucky there man!

Come to Mifflin county & try that once....you will get NO sympathy here if you've got a penis....you might as well chop if off and sell it on Ebay, and then give the proceeds to the ex....DomRel will REQUIRE you to do that anyhow.....so that the "peach" of an ex can afford to live....poor girl....

After all, she only makes more money than you......has a live-in boyfriend who pulls down $75 G's a year....and gets foods stamps & cash welfare assistance on top of that.....what's a poor ex-wife to do to survive?

Why in the hell don't they require the spouse receiving the support to document what they are spending it on and in addition, if they have a decent job, they should be required to bank a chunk for the children?

LOL...Huntingdon County isn't much better...I get a cold feeling every time I pass that whole block!!...DR, Court House, CS.....BRRRRR.... Unless you do it for a living its hard for them to base an income on you to get money from it... It's not a guaranteed income. And I am sure allot of our expenses out way any profit!

I feel for ya...and no I don't need a peach so I can't help ya there...Just look forward to the last payment!... Its funny here..If she needs money, we get dragged up the next week...If our income changes and we need a review,,,it takes a months to get a hearing..(been there)... I was self employed and paid on my own(not wage deducted)....They dragged me to court for being $249 behind...and I pay $179 a week!!!..I said, "Am I your worse case???, My freaking neighbor is thousands behind, his kids will collect retirement before they see it all!!. And he's not here, Boy I am a real dead beat Dad!!" The judge had to hide his face to laugh...The DR guy said ,"Well you don't understand, Every time you don't pay she calls and its a problem for me. I have to send notices and call." I said, "Well isn't that your job??? I don't like mine either." Judge laughed and said, "Well maybe he just misses seeing me"...Which I grinned and he said, "Pay the man Bob!" I over paid the last check and received a $2.35 check...never cashed it....Hope it messed up the books..(yeah right!)...Boy I got even!!...LOL Best of Luck Bro!!

I agree with that!!...even 1/2 should go to a trust fund or something so the child aleast sees what you did for them and has something when they turn 18.

Why are the guys who want to take care and be part of their kids lives punished more? I'm getting raped, can't afford my house payment now, had to file bankruptcy, can't take the kids anywhere fun unless I play out so that i have the cash, yet I don't get any money to help out and we had the kids equally.... actually, I had them everyday or my mom did until I got home from work. My parents or I had been feeding, bathing, helping with homework, etc... each day. She gets in from work around 8pm, I drop them off and they go to bed. I'm the one who did the "Primary Care" yet she gets the cash.... go figure. Now she put them in daycare so that me and my mom don't have them as much, without my consent, and that's okay too as far as domestic relations goes.

What's nuts is, I have several lady friends in Blair county who can't get a dime from their ex... they're busting their ass to work and raise the kids and getting nothing from the jackass they married, who won't even call the kids let alone see them! Why is that?

Punished for trying to be the dad your kids need.... it's insane!

I'm one of them. Haven't seen a dime in child support in a few years (save for the lousy $200 that I got unexpected 2 years ago). He's over 4 grand in the hole. She hasn't seen him since she was 6 years old (she's now 17) and pretty much considers him dead to her. Domestic Relations can't even find his lazy ass. Last I heard he was living in South Carolina with his 2nd wife living with her parents and surviving on her welfare income because he's too lazy to get a job. If he does get a job, he takes the bare minimum wage and the least hours possible so they don't make him pay any more than he already has.

It's sad...I feel for both of you...a child needs both parents....They are not a weapon against what the other spouse wants. I think child support makes more familys fight than get along...My better half now didnt take her ex for support...But, he's there everyweek, takes them on weekends, pays for their clothes, lunches, items they want for school, pictures ect. ect...and we get along great. He and I can talk for hours and never a problem...it works perfectly, I think just dragging a guy up and demanding him to pay "X" amount and not taking anything into concideration causes more heartaches and women not letting guys see, and guys not going to see them. They expect you to sell all your stuff because of some standard paper thats suppose to work for all...And were all different!

Trucula: Your a better man than most, I give you credit for that. Most guys would feel threatened by the ex being around.
