I've given it alot of thought, and I think it's a tie between
Queensryche and Dokken

Lillian Axe.

When I hear the term hair band, I normally only think of hair/glam bands. I never really lumped the 'ryche into hair band status, even though they had that look, somewhat. Staging, antics, heavy makeup and cheese makes hair bands, to me.

There were better things going on at the time.
Like Suicidal Tendencies, Sick Of It All, Agnostic Front, and other things Hardcore. Just never got into the Hair Metal, Maybe Jackyl are they Hair Metal? They're cool Or Shotgun Messiah (just joking about that one).

Favoriate 80's Hair band

Post by metalchurch »

I think that despite their guitar tone, those were some of the baddest fuckin guitar players out there. They were technically more proficient than alot of other bands. But it did get kind of gay for a little bit, and with all the cookie cutter bands from 'LA'. I listen to the guitars mostly. I grew up when that era was nearing its end. I love the Shredders of the 80's/ 90's though. I was just wonderin if anyone else out there liked that stuff.

Wax, I agree, but please don't call my boys a hair band. Aye, aye, aye.

I guess they kind of get lumped in to the "hair band" genre, but I've always been a sucker for the twin guitar attack. (And I'm a drummer, go figure!). So my votes have to go to Iron Maiden, 1987-era Whitensake, and Tesla. Also, the original incarnation of David Lee Roth's band. I saw him on the "Eat 'Em And Smile" tour in 1986 (Crisler Arena, Ann Arbor, MI), and it completely blew me away. DLR, Steve Vai, Billy Sheehan, and Gregg Bissonette. Pound for pound, one of the best lineups ever.

I agree, not hair metal. I'm not at all a hair metal fan. I had to pick SOMETHING from that era. So Maiden wins.

There were many great regional hairbands too... all of the following played a lot of their own material:
Bashful (Mt. Union), Hanon Tramp (Harrisburg), Optimus Prime (Reading), Hard Knoxx (Scranton), Zaza (Erie), Monarch (Hagerstown), Tung Bandits (Pgh.) , Easy Mickey (York),Slammer (Altoona), Rough Dymond (Philly), Satin Steel (Erie), Dead End Kids (Philly), Child's Play (Balt.), Blackmail (Frederick), Teeze (Philly), Dezire (Allentown), Krank (Philly), Cry Tuff (York), Dirty Blond (Allentown) ...

Hey 313, and anyone else who remembers Bashful..

If you visit Scream's Myspace page, I've got some of the old Bashful tunes up on our player, and they are available for download. Right now, the 4 songs are "Bad Habits", "Not Afraid Of Dying", "Fading Away", and "Love Bites Back". Feel free to stop by and take a stroll down memory lane.

Don't forget 2 of the best bands from Pa. ever, Harpo and Dirty Looks. I got a Myspace bulletin (I think from Henricks son) that Dirty Looks is making new music as we speak. Henrick was in the studio with Jack Pyers! Not sure who else may be involved.(I hope Lidel and Barnett!) I cant wait to hear it!

I loved Dirty Looks. I got to see them a bunch of times and they put on a great show, too. I saw them once in Altoona at a bar but I can't remember the bars name. The Altoona show best song of the night....War Pigs!!!!! Loved it.

I'd put Lillian Axe up there pretty high, too!!!

I actually think the bar in Altoona was called The Engine Room. Don't know if that's right or not.....but it was a kick ass show.

I'm gonna say Cinderella. I love Tom Keifer's voice & the way he sings. He's just the total package. Fred Coury can pound those skins & spin a mean drumstick. They are just classic 80's with class. I saw them in concert in Johnstown. Great show. Man, those guys really know how to rock it out & do up that hair!!!! All great musicians - they get my vote.

I wish i would have been born in the 70's so i could have grown up listening to cool music like that. Of course, my dad always made us listen to country in the car, and my mom made us listen to Alice Cooper in the car....so you know who we always voted on to drive. I knew all the lyrics to the Alice Coopers "Trash" cd by the time i was 5.

What sucked worst about the 80's for me was the fact that i had to listen to all the pop shit that came out because of my sisters. So, basically that meant Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, and all music like that. That might have been late 80's / early 90's though.

I didnt really know what 80's bands existed til i got in with Ryan with Falling Higher, and it was forced upon me, then i started to like it.

I had a screwed up childhood...
