To a Successful Drum Night

Post by RobTheDrummer »

I would like to thank everyone who came out and joined our little drum get together. Randy and I think it was a huge success. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. I look forward to seeing you all again on the 31st of this month and hopefully some more people will show up. Thanks again!!

Last night was definitely one of the coolest nights ever. In my opinion… it seemed like everyone gained some additional knowledge and had left with a sense of satisfaction and motivation. I sure did!

Rob and Bill did an excellent job covering the Rudiments. Their presentation, along with the manner in which they described the fundamentals, really made it easy for the group to understand, and ultimately play, the Rudiments. Thanks guys!

I met some really great people last night and hope to see each of you at future get-togethers. :D

In regards to March 31st… any ideas for a Topic :?:

Randy mentioned above about suggestions for the next get together. Does anyone that attended or wanted to attend have anything they would like to know or work on (i.e. feet, more rudiments, getting around the kit..ect) Let us know, so we can prepare for the next one. Thanks people!

I had the most AWSOME time! I will be at the next one. I'm putting my kit back together today to start working on rudiments. I wish I'd learned them years ago. Thank you guys for eveything. I learned so much from all of you. Can you e-mail those pictures or post them? I'd really like to have them.

I'm sure I could echo everyone there when I say we had a great time. Thanks to Randy for spearheading the project. Thanks to Rob for making the Tyrone site and his drums available. Redawg, thanks for bringing your kit ( you look like you have so much fun playing it ) .

For anyone not there, I would encourage you to come the next time. We're just a group of people who love drums, and we get together to exchange ideas. Sometimes we watch drummer videos, or talk about drumming styles, or cymbals, or drumheads etc. . The topics are endless.

It's not a clinic, but we decided to try a focus topic with a moderator. Right now it happens to be rudiments, but any topic can be chosen and anyone could moderate.

If you have been playing for a long time you might find it rewarding to help out. If you started playing this afternoon, come and enjoy.

I enjoyed watching all of you play more than myself playing. What do you guys think about spending a little time at the next get together reviewing the rudiments? We could show each other how we applied the rudiments to our playing. There are all kinds of things I'd like to see us talk about. Tuning, foot technique, poly-rhythms, 4 way coordination. I left there with so many fresh new ideas. Thank all of you so much. Can't wait to see the pictures.

These drum nights sound really cool. I know I've learned more from watching local players than I have from records, lessons, and articles. I wish we bass players had a get together every month or fortnight.

Possible topic for a future Drum Night:

Being a drummer and a "novice" soundman, I'd like to go over mic selection & placement, EQ, effects, tuning, muffling, etc. for a good live drum sound.

Not to put anyone on the spot, but I've heard Redawg is pretty good behind a board and a kit. :D

I'm planning on being there on the 31st. Looking forward to meeting you all. (I know Randy and he said these drum nights couldn't be going any better!)

Drummers ROLL!!!
