Damaged Bill Lawrence Pickup???

Post by metalchurch »

I bought a Bill Lawrence XL500 on ebay, and for some reason it has a loud hum when i stop playing. and it will go away it i stand or sit in certain position, but if i move even slightly it comes back. I use Lawrence pickups alot and I actually had to wire both sides of the coil together to even get a sound, it's hard to explain what i mean. But could it be a damaged coil??? It appears like one side of the coil is damaged, but I'm not so sure it would even work. It is NOT the ground!! I have it grounded more than adequately. I always wire my own guitars and I've never had a problem occuring like this before. If anyone can help me out please call me and I'll explain it to you in more detail. Thanks alot (814) 224-2296 Joe

i just saw this; i had the same problem. it would hum so loud i wouldn't take my hands off the guitar. it sounded like a ground; i had the whole thing rewired and it still didn't help. i went to two duncan alcino pickups and the problem went away. not sure what the deal ever was; it baffled evryone i took it to because the pickup was fine when it was put on a meter. ???????
