Sherry Lender?
Sherry Lender?
Any one know what Sherry is up to? Hard to believe that we've been without John for a year now....for some reason my thoughts went to him and Sherry and I really only met them the one time they played at The Popper. Man, they were good.....
Sherry, if you are out there, hope all is well.

Lisa,
On a sort of related note, Chris Kane, who played with John in Tugger, has a
new thing goin' with Jim Force and a couple of other guys. They'd prolly bring a lot of people to the Popper.

John Baker was a great guy who played in many bands through the years.
Mostly in the Clearfield, DuBois area. Of all his bands Tugger is probably
the main one that comes to mind. Those guys were talented, huge and insane.
One of the nicest and most talented people you could imagine meeting and a huge positive influence on the whole area. Who knows how many people play because of that influence.
In the last few years he'd been doing an acoustic gig with his wife (Sherry).
About a year ago he had a heart attack and passed away. I believe he
was 44. I hadn't seen John in a couple of years but the week before I ran
up to Electric Avenue to see them and spoke to him for a while. Can't tell
you how great a person he was. Just this huge smile evvery time he spoke to you.
Other guys on here (Calv and Dunk) knew him longer and probably
better than I did. But, even if you only met him once he made you feel
like you knew him forever.
This was actually a sentiment you heard a lot at his tribute show.
Dang.

John
When I first started playing with Roadkill, years ago, we did a show with Johns band Snakebite a Meases Springs. Holy shit was that crazy. First time I got flashed playing out....
I thougt they were the gretaest and your right very talented, but always in touch with who they were. John always had time and always said hi. Have you ever been confronted, during your break, by that one VERY drunk guy that wants to talk to you about how good your playing. You try and blow them off, JOhn always talked to them..... I was usually the VERY drunk asshole.
I know this wasn't subject to this thread, but it's so easy to talk about the guy. I can't say i was close to him. But I can say it was an honor to know him.

I spoke with his daughter Katie a few weeks after the Hastings Benefit for him last year. She was very moved that musicians came out and did that for her father.
Wow, that has been a year now, hasn't it?

I had the absolute pleasure of sharing the stage with John during a one-off show at Burgi's a couple years back. I jokingly called it the "largest band ever assembled in Altoona", as the lineup was myself, Billy Nusom, Paul from BigHead Guitars (now plays in RedEye), and John. What a great night that was. I had never met John before, and I immediately was drawn to him as a wonderful and warm person, and one hell of a musician. Sherry was there that night too, and sang a few songs with us. The world is a colder place without John Baker. I'll always treasure the memories of that night.
Dood...

Dunk,
Interestingly, I got flashed a couple of times at the benefit show for John.
Have the pictures to prove it and I believe Jim Price was about 10' away
from me.
