I need help please read!
Hey everyone,
My name is Trav, I am 25 years old, and I lost my dad on Christmas Eve to Brain Cancer, I know this isn't the right place to post this, but I need to get ideas and bands first. So if anybody would be willing to help me put together a Cancer Benefit show around June I would really appreciate it. I know Rob from Bad Daze is really good with this stuff, it's really hard for my right now and I don't know how I'll live without him. He was my dad, how can you replace that..you can't. But I learned alot about life from him, and I'll always have that. But if you would be interested, please PM me or email me at my link below. I know that the last one I played in Gin n' Juice for was the Hastings Benefit and that was just awesome. So if you have any ideas or thoughts, let me know, I can't do this alone! Thank you!

Trav,
First and foremost, sorry as hell to hear of your loss. I can't imagine what it must be like for you, although we'll all find out one day, unfortunately. My dad and I have always been very close.
As a starting point, I'd contact your local chapter of the American Cancer Society and, considering the time of the year, I'd probably try to incorporate your efforts with the annual Relay For Life campaign in some way.
Everybody knows at least one person involved with a Relay team ... hell, the ACS may even be interested in a benefit show at an area Relay event (Mansion Park always hosts a big one) to help entertain the walkers and raise additional funds.
Next thing I'd do would be secure a sound company willing to donate its time (I can think of a few, just be careful the guy you settle on hasn't thrown any of his equipment down any flights of steps lately). At the same time, put feelers out for bands or other acts that might want to participate.
This is just off the top of my head. Good luck with your endeavor and let us know if we can help at all.

You will want to work with your American Cancer Society Chapter. Flood City Brass played many benefits and helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars. Some of them we did are:
Cancer Society Pink Ribbon Ball
American Heart Association Ball
Free Medical Clinic Night of Rock Rythem and Blues
Conemaugh Hosipital Gala
American Red Cross Tsumami Benefit
Putting a show on like this is not trivial but it is not impossible either. There are logistics to manage: Venue location, food, sponsors, advertising, etc.
Maybe start small this year and do another show a little bigger.
We are pretty booked up for June so I doubt we could play it but I can help you with the logistics and I have some contacts that may help. PM me.
I'm very sorry to have learned about the loss of your father that is tragic, I lost My father in the late 90's and LIFE got so Complicated after that, My heart goes out to you, if there's anything I can do you can count on me, we all have to have someone to help us get through tough times like this, and this Music Community is the best to help with issues like that.
Hey Travis,
My heartfelt condolences to you over your loss. This coming May will mark ten years since my mother passed away from complications due to lung cancer. Cancer impacts everybody at one time or another.
Count me in for any benefit effort that comes together. I'll be glad to help get the word out about it.

Hey Trav,
Sorry for your loss. I lost both my parents to cancer. My mom was the sweetest lady and my dad was my best friend. I am thankful for the time I had with them, but I really miss them. It was really hard watching their cancer drain the life from them. Anyone who has gone through that knows what I mean.
We also played the Hastings benefit. We were Billy And The Inmates then, and we are Night Train now. I haven't talked to the guys about it yet, but if this happens, I feel sure we would be willing to be part of this. Keep me posted!

Travis,
My heart goes out to you. Like you, I lost my Dad to cancer last 4th of July. (esophageal) Nothing can prepare you for the emptiness. My Dad was so cool and supportive. He never judged me for my love of the rock-n-roll life I lived for years. A while back I had a chance to go on the road with a band in Dallas. I had a pretty good job that everyone was telling me I'd be crazy to quit. When I called my Dad to ask his advice he said, “Run! You are only 21-now is the time to take the chances that I never did.” So I did and I always told him how much that meant to me.
I’ll talk to the guys in my band BluesMoon about helping you out. I have a small Carvin PA (1000 watts) that I’d be willing to donate the use of if it would help. Also I have a little experience with benefits too. (the Project Lifeboat for the Tsunami victims). The Bavarian Hall in Altoona is a great place if you haven’t a venue yet. (I don’t suggest Sundays)
I’ll be in touch! God Bless You!

First, let me offer my deepest Sympathy on the loss of your Father. Every time you think or speak of him, he is right there with you.
It's somewhat bewildering when I think of all the dear ones I Love, lost to cancer. My dad died from stomach cancer the day before New Year's Eve, 1989. However, the first I recall, in 1973, was my Aunt Evelyn. She had lung cancer that had spread to her brain. Surviving her were my Uncle and 7 cousins.
If there's anything I can do to assist with a fundraiser/benefit, don't hesitate to contact me.

Lost my dad to cancer almost 11 years ago so I can relate as well. Check out www.cancersux.com. These people have been running a benefit in Rural Valley (about 30-45 minutes north west of Indiana) for approx 5 or 6 years now. I've never been to the show but they usually have several bands perform throughout the day with other activities as well. There's a number on the site to call for info- (724)664-9895. If you get something rolling let me know. I'll gladly help if I can. Stay strong!

My mother has a kidney removal on March 23rd due to cancer. It is her only good kidney. She has had one sister that died from this cancer, and another one who had a kidney removed already. Its scary. We do not know the prognosis yet. Funny...I've been supporting Penn State Football Team's Lift for Life (raising funds for Kidney Cancer) for about 5 years now. I probably can't help too much but I promise to promote it on our myspace when its getting near its time.
I do recommend matching the bands up with the venue. Lesson learned.
