Okay, I've got one. It's one of my all time favorites...

The soundtrack to Flash Gordon featuring Queen. "The Wedding March" has got to be one of the best guitar sounds I've ever heard. (I figured I'd tie my opinion to the "Guitar tone.... Subjective??" thread.

How could I forget this one? The Wall. A classic. Absolute classic. With or without the movie.

::thinks:: Would Dark Side of the Moon be considered a soundtrack to the Wizard of Oz? True.. Off to see the Wizard is a powerful tune and all...but the other might rival it...

The best soundtrack of all time?...

I don't want this taken the wrong way, or seen as egotistical, but...

The ultimate soundtrack, in my eyes, is the soundtrack to my life. Without the music I have grown up on, came to love, and play - there would be such a void that I wouldn't know what to do with myself.

I can only assume, that you all, feel the same way. The soundtracks to all our lives are the best soundtracks of all time.

Yea FatVin, I always liked the Blues Bros one, also Rush (EC) for some moody guitar, and my favorite - there was this movie on VH1 that I loved called 'The 60's'. They did a great job with pairing up the music to what was happening in the movie...what I liked best was the selection of songs, they were not oldies that you hear all the time in these'coming of age' movies. Stuff like the Velvet Underground'Yesterdays Parties', or Spirit's 'Nature's Way'. What really sucked though is the soundtrack CD they put out was all the same old 60's songs you hear all the time, not the odd ones that were in the movie. How bogus is that...watch the movie, don't judge by the CD! I also like the soundtrack to Around the Fire, I ordered it online. It's not the same old crap too, most of the music on this was new to me.

I'll probably be beaten to death with a banjo, but I loved the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack, it put the fear of God in the Nashville record company vultures. A single video taken completely from shots for the movie, zero ad budget, and it sells 6 million copies. No auto-tuned vocals, no drum machine sequencing, no belly-buttons showing, just hillbilly's laying it down.
I still spin the Heavy Metal soundtrack occasionally, too. Like A Clockwork Orange and The Wall, a great movie to spark a fatty, kick back, and dig your heels in.

Worst ever? Kiss's Music from The Elder. The record was released, the movie never was. Wow, I remember seeing them doing "World Without Heroes" on Solid Gold in about 1980... Gene had that squashed-down haircut... I was so disappointed.---->JMS

I have never been a fan of "modern country" music. But after seeing O' Brother.... I got the soundtrack. I'm knocked out by the Americana/ folk sounds on it. And the part about stickin' it to Nashvile ain't bad either. My family and I stopped at the Museum of Appilachia (sp) on the way south a couple of years ago. There were musicians playing antique insturments and singing. It was amazing stuff. I thought it was great that the O' Brother soundtrack introduced me to that kind of music.

::puts hand out and waits:: I would just like to take a moment to congratulate you on the oportunity of making me have to wipe my walls, computer, and cats down. I never thought I'd snarf a soda that badly in my life. ::claps:: well done.

Come to think of it.. Disco songs like "Brick House" from Muppets in Space was awesome.
Worst Muppet song? The kid from Muppet Treasure Island singing about washing pots and pans. That reeked worse than stank socks that have been on a persons feet for more then six days...straight.
Best song? A little cheesie...but my daddy singing "It's not easy, being green" in his best kermit the frog voice when I was six. That's a lifetime memory.

CLERKS was a pretty good soundtrack.

Last action hero. The movie wasn't the best but the music was good. Megadeth, AC/DC. Good stuff on there.

And how can we forget.....UP IN SMOKE

All great ones, but........

those are all great soundtracks, but there is one that might be obscure.
Its called "THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST". I know, a whole lot of you are saying, "oh no, a holy roller". But this soundtrack is all from Peter Gabriel, and it is magical. It isnt your vampire or shoot'em up soundtrack. But for relaxation or to hear different instruments you normally dont hear, i really suggest it. Please dont get confused with the movie that is oput now, "THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST". It isnt that.
THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST was made in the lat e 80's or early 90's, but if poeple enjoy "THE RETURN OF THE KING" I highly recommend this.

I'm surprised The Who's Tommy or Quadrophenia (bad movie) wasn't mentioned.

I always liked Queen's work in "Highlander"

Pure evil said it best. I hate to bring rap into this, but I enjoyed Friday as well as Above the Rim. I promise, that is the only rap oriented thing I ever sya on here again. I would hate to see this page become known as rappage.net. Ha Ha. Oh yeah, what about Mr. Holland's Opus. It has John Lennon's Imagine and other greats on it. Wayne's World rocked too with Queen and Jimi Hendrix.

Anything John Williams does is gold. Everything from Superman to Indiana Jones to Starwars. The music is just as important as the story.

And it also has a kick ass version of Montrose's Rock Candy being covered by The Bullet Boys. It's rare that I ever like a cover more than an orginal, but I think this is an acception. Marq Torien wails in that song.

And let's not forget the Rhinobucket tune. Does anybody remember Rhinobucket? Nothing like good old "We wish we were Ac/dc, but we're not" styled hard rock in the vein of Kix, Jackyl, Krokus, Accept, ect.

The best match of sounds and visuals ever, in my opinion:

The Blade Runner Soundtrack, by Vangelis.

This guy was one of the true pioneers of synth composition. His sounds are as evil, sweet, haunting, erotic, and ugly as a Giger painting.

Dirty Dancing was a better crafted film than Pretty woman
Only this guy could possibly critique/compare/contrast two sucky chickflicks.

How about the shred scene in the cheezy movie The Crossroads. A viscious battle btn a young dude (the karate kid actor) and the devil (the hands of a Mr. Steve Vai.) faught with dangerous riffs from hell.
