I totally believe in seperation of church and state, I'm Agnostic,
don't like the bizzare sway what formalized religion holds in
this country, etc.

That being said, that is freaking stupid. I respect that the
pastor isn't going to try to find a workaround so he's not
breaking the letter of the law but that the N.F.L. is pulling this
at all is ridiculous.

1) Why do you need to have a Super Bowl party in a Church? To me... Church is needed for only 1 thing.... worship...

2) The ban is only on churches that use bigger than 54 inch screens, correct? Simple... USE A SMALLER FUCKING SET!! Get 2 52 inch screens and Quit your bitching..

The NFL is pretty sensitive about the use of the "Super Bowl" name, and anybody benefiting from the use of that name without their permission. I know that in my line of work that technically, unless radio stations are carrying the game, they are not supposed to use the name "Super Bowl" in any promotions pertaining to the game.

I agree that it is pretty petty. The Super Bowl has become so much a part of our society and national psyche; everybody knows what game any "football game party" this weekend is likely going to pertain to anyway.

Churches open their doors for things like this for many reasons. An opportunity to strengthen their relationship with the community by finding a middle ground that interests a lot of people and get them in the door to (hopefully) open their eyes to The Lord. Churches also do things in the community to get kids off the street. A good Church is A LOT more than a house of Worship.

The 54 inch screen law applies to everyone staging a "mass viewing" of the game. Which is the main reason I posted the link, because I wasn't aware of such a law.

Thats messed up... Couldn't they sue every bar that has a Superbowl party too? Aren't they also profiting from a trademark? Some of the new plasmas are bigger than 55"...

That's to you. To others (not me) it's a large part of their social life as well. I have friends who did the same when the Steelers were in it last year. Their closest friends were all in the church and they would all hang out together there with the church people.

Besides a church is just a building. I remember reading - I believe in the Bible - that real church is when people converse and learn about God and the like.

There's a music store up in Williamsport called K&S (they have another store in Harrisburg too) that is inside of an old church. I remember somebody saying that it was sacreligious. I think that if you believe in God, then God should be in every building. It's kind of weird to be in there though because the floor's on a slant like most churches. It's been a few years since I've been there, but they I remember that they use to have a very nice selection, and I bought about three basses from there.

Yeah, in my mind there either is or there isn't. It isn't (and can't be) something that is relegated to one place or whenever you feel like it.

I used to go to an after-hours club in Nashville that used to be a large church right in midtown. It was simply called "The Church" At first it seemed a bit strange but I got used to it... They had several grilles out back and we used to cook steaks and watch the sun rise over the city. And I never missed church on a Sunday morning for a couple years!!!
