Hot wings!

Post by Punkinhead »

To anyone who like hot wings, I found a new recipe last night, that is damn good!

5 tablespoons Dave's Insanity Sauce(the one that has the insane reading)
5 tablespoons tabasco sauce
2 oz. Louisiana Hot Sauce
3 oz. Frank's Red Hot Buffalo Wing Sauce
3 teaspoons garlic
3 teaspoons pepper

mix it all together and cover already cooked wings....It's good

Damn good....

What you fail to realize is that your wings are LAZY and PREDICTABLE. Your recipe lacks CONTROL, DIRECTION, and TECHNIQUE. I wish you would stop naively trying to pass yourself off as a cook WHEN YOU HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OR RESPECT FOR THE CRAFT OF MAKING HOT WINGS.

Here is a typical BORING and CLICHE recipe for hot wings:

5 tablespoons Dave's Insanity Sauce(the one that has the insane reading)
5 tablespoons tabasco sauce
2 oz. Louisiana Hot Sauce
3 oz. Frank's Red Hot Buffalo Wing Sauce
3 teaspoons garlic
3 teaspoons pepper

This was obviously written in about 30 SECONDS by someone with NO EDUCATION. Notice the lack of development. The so-called COOK uses FOUR different hot sauces. If THE cook had any sort OF direction, this goal could have been accomplished WITH only one hot SAUCE. Here's my recipe, which is much better:

20 tablespoons Dave's Insanity Sauce(the one that has the insane reading)
3 teaspoons garlic
3 teaspoons pepper

See how much more CONTROL and PURPOSE this recipe has?

You may say that you LIKE your hot wings, but it is a FACT that my wings SHOW MORE CRAFT AND TECHNIQUE AND ARE THEIRFOUR THE SOUPERIOR WINGS.

Of course I like and enjoy all hot wings. Everyone should think OUTSIDE THE KFC BOX and make wings any way they want. But it is a FACT that MY WAY of making wings is THE ONLY CORRECT WAY TO MAKE WINGS AND ALL OTHER WINGS ARE LAZY AND NAIVE.

Wing connoisseur that I am, my tongue hasn't quite developed the flame-retardant qualities necessary to deal with Dave's Insanity Sauce. But judging by the sound of that recipe, if heat is your thing, that should do the trick!

Since the topic of wings has been brought up, what are your favorite wings in this area? I'm huge on Pellegrine's original recipe (duh); honorable mentions to go Hitching Post's Gold, Belmar's Cajun, City Limits' Italian and CoBrH's hot (if you can stomach the karaoke singers while you're eating them there).

I must say, some of the best "hot" wings i have had are at the whistle stop, #3 definately have some zip to them. Also, Dave at the Club Car makes some tasty wings. If you are traveling to Indiana, Boomerang's definately has it, the Lousiana Lover's Sauce is delicious! Definately worth trying out. And State College, I have to go with Champs. Honorable mention goes to the all you can eat at hooters (911 sauce is my fav there....) whats better then eatin as much wings as you can, watching sports and looking at some women?

One ingredient that everyone should add to their own recipe is soy sauce. 2-3 tsps. to a good size bowl of sauce will usually do the trick. Suit to taste but remember how salty it is. Then after you dip or brush your wings, sprinkle them with cajun seasoning. I have to go get a paper towel. I'm drooling on my keyboard.

My favorite wing spot around State College is Duffy's Tavern in Boalsburg, and of course Hooters. :)

Got to go get some now.

Anyone who knows me knows that I would sell souls for three things on this earth. Two of them we'll forget about here. The third, well...it comes from a bar in Johnstown by the name of "Scooters". Evil makes some to die for Seven Pepper Wings. Not hot hot persay, but tastey tastey morsels with some zip to them. Oooooh...and greasy too towards the bottom. Mmmm the kind of grease you dip bread or frenchfries into cuz you want more of that. Mmmm ::drools::

Ah..oh..excuse me.

They also have some kick arse hot wings and (mmmmm another fave) garlic. All are able to be dipped into that Seven Pepper grease. And taste fantastic together.
I'm hungry.

So thinking about chicked has made me think of a joke. Since I don't know if we get away with "Pig Jokes" on here, I'll just write down half of it. If you wanna hear the other half, let me know.

One of my favorites is Al's hot garlic wings! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I wish I was in Altoona now.

If anyone happens to be driving on route 22 w. through Blairsville stop in at The Chicken Coupe. They are located right across the road from Tri-Star Motors. It's a new restaurant specializing in chicken and wings. They have around 20 different flavors: cluck-n-hot(ouchy), original hot, xtra hot, mild buff, buff garlic, terreyaki, honey must, spicy bbq, regualar bbq, bbq must, seasoned, ranch, butter & garlic, parmesean, garmasean(parm + garlic), sweet-n-hot(called Kaylor Flavor), spicy terrayaki...i'm forgetting a few. You can by up to 500 wings at a time if you'd like...it'll cost you $199, but it's good for parties.

My friend owns this place so it's a shameless plug on my part. However, I did create the cluck-n-hot flavor!

Jackson's up in Winburne has excellent wings, as does Hooters. Another fave is the sweet teriyaki-style wings they do at Coaches Corner in Bellwood. Great for dipping fries!

Yeah, I've had the Quaker Steak and Lube wings before... very tasty. I hope that's where you were talking about, Punkinhead.
I was picturing wings fried in 10W40.

Yeah, I agree on Quaker Steak & Lube; I especially like the 'Louisiana Lickers' wings.

Another good out-of-town place I like is Denny's Beer Barrel Pub in Clearfield. Several of their wing varieties are out of this world. They also do the 6-pound hamburger challenge.

I can't believe Al's Tavern only got 1 mention in this thread up until this point! The only problem I have with them is that they are a little pricey....but good food can never be too expensive. My favorite at Al's are the Bay Wings, which I order with a side of either number 1 or number 2 sauce. The Old Bay seasoning on the wings gives them just an extra kick in the ass mixed with the heat.

As far as Hooters wings are concerned, I personally think they suck. I ordered the breaded hot wings once and they were nothing more than your typical swanson's frozen chicken available in any grocery store that were totally grease-soaked and the sauce wasn't hot at all. Maybe it was just a bad experience and I should re-evaluate them?

If you want good and damn cheap wings, the Belmar has wing specials Monday-Wednesday ($1.75/doz!!) which my favorite are the Cajun wings, once again dipped in a side of hot sauce.

This is an EXCELLENT thread, however it's making me damn hungry here around lunch time!

I agree on the Hooters wings. I have had them at a couple places and was not impressed.

My favorite wings are from a place in Kulpmont (outside of Shamokin) at a place called The Charles Dickens Pub. They are kind of small, but they have a fantastic flavor. 2 Dozen wings and several Guinness.. Doesn't get much better than that.

Oobie from The Rudys also makes killer wings. He was kind enough to let me in on the secret ingredients!

hey thanks mr. wertz but don't tell anybody the secret!!!!

i don't know if any of you have every heard of the triangle up in viola on your way to houtzdale, they got the best, every thing spicy cajun garlic to hot and mild to honey bbQ and you can even mix any of them up if you want to, i prefer the mild garlic ones myself. and all the other food there is great too. al's are very good wing as well. and also the park ave. pub in patton have great wings, number 4's good enough for the kick and not enough to kill ya. good eaten all

My experience with Hooters wings is that it depends on the location. The Altoona Hooters' wings aren't bad; I've enjoyed them there a few times.

But the worst wings I ever had were at the Hooters at Star Lake. They were something like $10 a dozen (no, I didn't buy them at that price, but a friend did). They were tiny (maybe they were using pigeons instead of chicken that day), dry (as in sitting around all day dry), and had more stale grease than sauce on them. Yuck.

And I can't forget this for an honorable mention in the "worst" category...Two years ago at the Lakemont Park Wing-Off's, when the cooking oil several of the restaurants used turned rancid. God, that stench was awful! I thought somebody was cooking rotting chickens!

The Wing-Off folks were more careful about the cooking oil situation last year...

I know most of you probably don't get to the Lewistown area very often if ever, but Season's Restaurant and Night Club on Main St. Yeagertown has some damn good hot buffalo style wings. Of course there is always the boneless buffalo wings at Applebee's of Selinsgrove. They are to die for. Only prblem is, I think I tend to go through much more MGD than usual because beer is necessary to extinguish the flames. Wing lovers ROCK, so ROCK ON!

Beer to extinguish? I prefer a milk based salad dressing!! :)

Hey and thanks for having Frayed up to jam with you guys....I had a lot of fun!! However, I really need to start controlling myself when the bars give free draft beer to the bands!

yeah, that became a problem with us by the end of the night. the bar tenders were surprised in just how much beer we could drink. They were the ones that wanted to give all of our friends free beer too so we took advantage of it. Isn't playing small town bars great? ha ha. It was our pleasure to have FRAYED join us. I think we formed a solid freindship in those few hours.
