Here is an example of how Bush can play with the facts yo tell a lie.

State of the union address "We have created over 7 million jobs" . Well yeah, but he forgot (cough) to mention they had LOST over 4 million jobs. Leaving him with a net of over 3 million !

BTW at this point in the Clinton administration, they had created over 18 million jobs !

You say you don't like him all the time now that his approval ratings are lower than EVER (and lower than any other president EVER), his policies are being exposed for the horse $hit that they are and the f¨©king guy lies about REAL ISSUES on a daily fü©king basis, yet you defend the retard every chance you get. It makes you look kinda naive, bro.

Here's a bit of info...ALL POLITICIANS ARE LIARS. if you dont know that ...you have no right to vote. basically its.. pick the best piece of shit from the toilet. Arguing over who is the biggest liar is stupid. They were both liars. The next prez will be a liar...the one after that too. see the pattern yet?????

well, i took some in school once. It was maybe 2:00 when i did. my mom wasnt supposed to be home that night. it didnt kick in until i was on the bus home. when i got home, my mom was still there..she hadnt left yet...and it was in full effect. Keep in mind i was 16. SOOO stupid...shoulda waited until she left to take it ;) anyway, she started accusing me of being on drugs...in which i LIED and said i wasnt. I folded like a blind poker player, of course. It is NOT cool being yelled @ by your mom while on acid. luckily it wasnt good shit that time. i got in so much trouble. it didnt cost 3000 lives....but she reacted like it did.

Politicians create jobs? As an investor and sometimes entrepreneur, I am severely disappointed with foolish statements like that. The only jobs created by politicians are useless bureaucratic positions for cronies. Most jobs are created by small businesses in spite of the government.

All political ramblings aside, the present reality is that the US is at virtual full employment with the unemployment rate at 4.5%. The workforce can't handle many more jobs and continued job growth could actually be negative for the economy. For the past few years, wages have been going up faster than inflation and this will continue as long as unemployment stays at this level.

The federal reserve chairman is having an FOMC meeting tomorrow and his main concern right now is the high employment situation. The timing is bad because the January job numbers come out later in the week. If the rate stays at 4.5% or drops, the Fed might have to raise interest rates down the road. The FOMC results will come out on Wednesday. I think they will stand pat for now.

On a side note, something you won't ever hear about anywhere else is that my company, a manufacturer in Blair county, imported 100+ new high-paying manufacturing jobs from Canada.

Jeff, just to play devil's advocate, unemployment statistics are gathered from how many people are collecting unemployment benefits. They don't represent those actively looking for work who aren't collecting. Those numbers don't really represent how many are still out of work due to the first wave of companies picking up and moving to Third World countries thanks to things like NAFTA. If there were a way to collect those statistics, it would be very cool to see what the employment rate is really like.

But basing the microeconomy of Central PA as a representative example of the nation's economy is flawed. The economy here has always sucked balls.

BTW, I was a senior in high school and waited to go camping when I deiced to - as Dr. Timothy Leary would say - Turn on, Tune in, and Drop out. :D
"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.

I agree w/ what you are saying bassist_25,you can't really go by how many people that are collecting unemployment are unemployed. I work for NESL and our work is seasonal so ALOT of our workforce gets laidoff in the winter and collect UC Benefits, does that make us unemployed? No,we are on the roster and will be called back once spring hits. Do I want to look for a job(while I'm laid off) that pays less with crappier benefits? Haha-why would I?

Paul, those variables have always been in the unemployment rate and professional economists and we investors are fully aware of them. Those numbers remain statistically neutral in the long term and are a wash. They always mention them in the monthly labor reports.

Until recently, professional economists and "the market" considered a 5% unemployment rate to be statistically at "full employment"...this is taking all the variables you stated into consideration. They now consider less than 5% full employment. 4.5% is really starting to push the inflation curve.

Scott, the unemployment numbers are seasonally adjusted and take that into consideration. For instance, June is adjusted because of the influx of school graduates. November is adjusted because of the cutbacks in construction. March is adjusted because of the upturn in construction, etc.

The bottom line is that this is the set way of measuring employment for decades and all the loose ends don't matter to the guys who are watching inflation and investing money. They know from past data that when the monthly number hits 4.5% and stays there, inflation will result.

Here's last month's report to give you some idea of how thorough it really is:

No. Its is done by statistical survey, just like those studies by the psych grad students.
