What music gets you going, Metalrules
Let us know what music inspires you. Where we, the great unwashed, can turn to find excellence and CRAFT. What to you listen to for fun. Here's a list of some of my favorites. TOOL, NIN, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, Stone Temple Pilots, Led Zeppelin, Bruce Hornsby, Ani Difranco, A Perfect Circle, The Crystal Method, Machines of Loving Grace, The Police and Dave Matthews Band. NOW! Here's the challenge for anyone that responds to this post: Do not be critical of anybody's choices. Just look at what others are into and let it be known what you like. Maybe we can't relate to each others music. Maybe that's is the communication breakdown. So, have at it.....
Again, inspiration, what I like, etc do not justify what is well crafted.
I like metallica though I can find tons of lyrical flaws in the songs. I love sade, and her lyrics from a well crafted view are a disaster.
When i like something , I can still determine whether or not it is well crafted based on CONTROL, DIRECTION, AND TECHNIQUE. Again, when I critique I AM TOTALLY NEUTRAL towards the subject I am critiquing.

sheryl crow, Sara Evans, Metallic, Anthraxx, slayer, Madonna, Tina Turner, Barry Manilow, Air supply, Hall and Oates, Dido, Norah Jones, Bruce Hornsby, Joe Pass, Frank Sinatra, Diana krall, Death, Megadeth, Rush, Zep, ozzy, Lorrie Morgan, christina aguilera, AC?DC
Get my point. I have no favs in style or genre. They are all good. I can sit and listen to Frank Sinatra all the way to Rush or Metallica
I find on the average, COUNTRY MUSIC is more well crafted. Simply because many of the country artist either get SONGWRITERS OR CO SONGWRITERS to help make their songs well crafted.
Metal on the average is the worst in being well crafted. Simply because they write their songs only good enough to get a message across. They are the least to give consideration to SUPPORT in imagery, perspective, etc
Does this mean I like country better than metal. Absolutely NOT. I love them both equally. But I am educated enough to see CRAFT AND TECHNIQUE. Country people can play just as much with FEELING AND EMOTION as metal players in their respective genres. So how do you account for better crafted songs?
It is because the SONGWRITERS who co write or do all the writing, HAVE TIME TO SIT AT HOME AND WRITE. They do not have INTERVIEWS, PHOTO SESSIONS, ETC to take away from the writing.
Country writers will also REWRITE their lyrics or complete songs SEVERAL TIMES. They take sometimes months and years to finish a song.
Most metal writers take the sheryl crow writing method and that is, WE WRITE IN ONE SITTING. In other words they only take a few hours and the song has to be finished . If it is not, the song will never get done than.
When this happens usually NO ATTENTION TO DETAIL gets noticed.
