I always thought it was cool in a drop tuning to play riffs over top of myself... For example, if there is a spot where there is a big open D or C (whatever your tuning) like in a lot of Chevelle, Seether, etc... play the chord as smooth as possible so that you get good sustain, and then reach over without muting the strings and play a little lead riff... It sounds cool but if your sleeve or wrist mutes the chord you look like a drunken dildo... Thats why it's fun I guess?
I prefer to be the only electric guitar in the band anymore... 5-pieces w/ more than one electric tend to make me a little lazy sometimes...
I also use a lot of octaves in the LOWJACK stuff live, but in the studio I just do multiple tracks...
